explorer pinpoint/x-1 probe

thinking about the x-1 probe for my explorer ? i read that you can put the explorer down and detach the x-1 and use it just like the detector with pinpoint and scanning? seems like a good thing for me because i waste a lot of time trying to pinpoint with my 8"coil and it seems to get mixed up with other targets. any pros and cons to this unit before i buy

The x-1 is a must have. No complaints.
Works great.

Hi Todd,
Not sure if you know the probe only goes three inches down or so. I only use it to "pinpoint" shallow stuff or in the hole once I have taken out the plug. You will still need to pinpoint with your machine most of the time.

You should be able to pinpoint with the 8" coil way good. Did you ever try this? Tape a coin to the underside of a large piece of cardboard. Pinpoint the coin and poke a pin or nail through to see how close you can get. Move the coin and try it again. Once you are getting close to the coin, try it with the coil raised up eight inches. Get use to the womp-womp-womp sound of a deep pinpoint.

The x-1 probe will not solve all of your pinpointing problems but once you get close it will let you know where the target is. I use mine on almost every hole. I like it so much I got one for my backup detector so friends using it would have one too. Think of it this way, with the probe I can find a dirt colored penny in thirty seconds max. Without the probe I could spend five minutes looking. That is 4.5 more minutes I will be using to find the next target.

Take care and HH - Robin

Got mine about 2 weeks ago and I have to say it's the best thing I ever bought. As stated, it's great to pinpoint those shallow targets, especially those that are sitting right on the surface. For real "deepies", it makes finding a target a breeze. No more digging after the wrong target for times when there's something good next to trash. It'll also reduce the chance of scratching a target by accident.

You'll not be sorry you bought it. I wouldn't want to hunt without it now.
