Explorer SE

How many of you guys are going to get the very latest explorer SE?

Perhaps there will be a waiting time for the United States?

Have the Dealers any news over there.?

Jerry.

Well it doesn't seem that there's very much info on what improvements it offers over the XS. The Explorer II as far as I'm concerned offered next to nothing over the XS and so at least for me there was no inducement to buy it.

I need more depth and a faster update of the SmartFind screen in that order. If the SE offers this I will buy one. Can you share any info with us as to what this new unit improves upon? Or was it just time to put a marginally upgraded new colored unit on the market? Thanks for any info.

I'll be buying one as soon as they hit the north american market.
I currently use the XS...so it's time for an upgrade anyhow.

I waited on buying an explorer II...figuring another was on the way shortly.

The XS will make a nice backup unit :)

I'd also like to know when we can expect it to be available in North American as well...

Thanks for the summary. It's looks like most of the changes are essentially "cosmetic" except for the weight reduction. I hunt almost exclusively in IM mode so the menu changes are fairly irrelevant to me - the software has always been poor and I'd be surprised if it's been improved dramatically. I don't care how long the unit takes to power up as I only power up once or twice a detecting session.

What I do care about and I've very surprised they've done nothing about is the sluggish cursor update - the machine always falls way behind and what you're listening to is usually never what you see on the screen. Seems to me that they could have bitten the bullet and put a much faster processor in the unit even if it increased the cost a few hundred bucks.

Depth is also critical as I'm convinced that there are coins/relics in many places that are out of the reach of the Explorer (and thus all other detectors). I wish they'd added a second battery pack and increased the output power of the unit or what ever needs to be done to get another 3" - 4" of depth. Now that would be a real improvement!

So I guess I'll have to wait until the Explorer III. By the way Minlab are you taking a page out of Microsoft's book with the naming of these units (read: confusing!). Explorer XS, Explorer II, Explorer SE, what's next? Explorer 95

Just called my MD dealer and am looking to place an order. No info on his side yet, but put my name on the list.

Who are we Explorer users really kidding? Next to finding stuff, playing around with the machine is 1/3 of the fun :) A new machine poses new unexplored (pun intended) tweaking. The new coil look just rocks. If I can come up with the moolah, I may even a write a new usetheexplorerselikeapro blog :)

I wonder if that guys who writes the minelab books already has one in the hard drive

Im sure I heard right at the launch that there was a much, much faster processer fitted. Jerry, JBM will probably confirm as he was there also.

I think that I heard the same.

One thing for sure its no use being like Erik and letting advanced technology pass you by.

Mr Minelab never sleeps and of course he and us will go marching forward as long as we are in this hobby.

Lifes to short to miss out on the best equipment which does help us in the field.Jerry.

Thank you Tony - a much faster processor would probably be enough for me to purchase the unit.

"One thing for sure its no use being like Erik and letting advanced technology pass you by."

Not sure what you mean by this Jerry - I just want to make sure that the "advanced" technology is in fact better technology. I almost bought the Explorer II (to augment my two Explorer XS's), but it seemed there was no real functional advantage. Other than Tony's post above, I haven't seen that much of a functional advantage other than weight - which I don't really care too much about since the weight of the XS has never been an issue for me.

I have certainly been one of Mr. Minlab's biggest advocates (I love my XS), but before I pay the piper and "march" I want to make sure I like the tune.

Along with the other changes already mentioned here, there IS a faster processor in the SE. Don't ask me numbers, b/c I don't know them, but it is a faster machine and does respond faster than the Explorer II.

Also, don't hold me to it but I believe the release date in the States will be sometime around the 15th of this month.

Awesome machine, as all Explorers are....really cool to see Gordon H. pull a silver Celtic stater out of the ground after just a few minutes with it.

Hi Pat, Thanks for the info -- a faster processor would definitely be a big plus for me. The XS screen is so slow that I mainly hunt by sound. I would love to see that cursor where it's really supposed to be. Do you think that an XS or II would not have been able to find that stater? How deep was it? Thanks, Erik

Hello,
I've heard something about a choice between FBS Technology and one selectable single frequency. Is that true?

So do you mean there definitely will be a faster processor? Why is not this biggest change included in that improvement list? HH

When I saw the various posts and photo of the SE I was wondering if V-Flex actually did indicated both FBS and BBS in the same box. I am hearing now it does not have V-Flex but I wonder from some of the posts if there is an element of V-Flex in the SE. There are some features of the Sovereign that would be nice in an Explorer package. Also the coil on the SE looks like the one on my Sovereign I have thought for several years that a marriage of the two would make a great machine and even posted something on the Classroom forum about a Sovereign in an Explorer package way back when.

I think it may be more than just a few changes. I have believe for a while that the technology is there is the manufactures can make it more user friendly. By user friendly I mean more functional so the user does not need to be so focused to hear or see those really deep faint targets.

I expected a new Explorer by the first of the year so now will guess we will see a new DFX sooner than I thought. My guess was both an Explorer and DFX by Christmas but we shall see what we shall see.

Gee, Christmas in September!
