I have to admit that I take very good care of my two metal detectors. Clean them up regularly. I take great pride in my two machines. Well here goes.
I received my Se Pro a couple weeks ago and immediately started comparing signals with my V3i buddy. This SE is really a hot machine on deeper targets.
Well I unplugged the head phones to allow the other guys to hear the coin high tone and accidentally dropped the plug out of my hand. Not thinking it was a problem I followed the plug down until it hit the plastic cover over the front of my screen. It must have hit perfectly because now I have a small dent in the plastic I'm totally sick now. My V3i buddy said no problem just call Minelab and they'll send you out a new cover, but the SE is so well built you have to send in the machine to have the cover replaced. I was right on the verge of having all my buddies switch over to Minelab. I just hope the hole is not deep enough to allow dust and moister onto the inner screen. The plastic was a great idea, it would have prevented either a crack or a scratch on the glass screen.

Wow..I was going to say "what are the odds" but apparently they are pretty good. I'm thinking that I will leave my rain cover on all the time now. Heck I still can't bring myself to take off the thin plastic film that covers the screen when you take it out of the box.

Yes, I am leaving my rain cover on all the time. The screen can easily get dirt on it !

If I ever upgrade I'll still have a nice looking detector for trade or sell........on second thought it would be hard to part with the SE...

Hind site has always been a problem I have.
Never until it's to late.

[size=large]my bride of 42 yrs. learned a lesson on her new stove like that. she had the habit of putting seasoning containers on the top of her stove. one dropped one day and cracked the glass across the entire plate. no more stacking above the stove. same thing here. learning too late not to do things. i too learned from others on the forum that i won't take the dust cover off anymore. i hope i didn't learn too late. also learned from eddie that even with the dust cover on in a down pour your machine can drown. no hunting in downpours for me.
sorry to hear of your accident and hope you can get it fixed soon and cheaply.

If you have to send it in get a check up while its there. I did about the same thing with a digger i was using on my DFX so i know how sick it makes you feel. You need to get it in so you can get it back quickly or your darn warranty will run out before you realize it. I always carry a splitter if im hunting with someone that might want to compare signals. That away they just plug in and i dont have to swap head phones.

Marg stop warring, its just plastic top, its will not some how make your detector work bad. real screen is under this plastic screen, or all push button panel. it cost 65$ or close to this plus some few minutes work to change it. I did it my self. use your explorer and if you have small hole tape some transparent scotch on it. Good luck Stasys

First order of business when I received my detector - Screen Protector.

Protects the screen from minor scratches and abrasions.

I left the factory sticker on my screen for the first year I had my SE. I take efforts to keep my machine clean and not to let it get roughed up while using it - but accidents do happen.
I stretch a fold-lock sandwhich bag over the control box and replace it as need be. Keeps the dust and moisture off and it's cheap!
