Explorer vs Exterra 70

Has anyone done any testing of the Exterra 70 against any of the Explorer models? I use a Exterra 70 and have been happy with it. Just didnt know how good it would stand up to an Explorer. Thanks, Mark

I use the Explorer exclusively and love it but I have an X Terra 70 for a backup, It mostly gets used when i have a friend over to hunt. I have a 705 on the way. I mostly got it for my wife and to take to some of the dredge piles when I go prospecting.

I've tested them a few times against each other over iffy target situations.
I quickly found out that 99% of the time the 70 will hit on anything the Explorer will and even do much better with small gold pickers.
For those that like an all around machine including real prospecting, the 70 performs admirably. There is a lot to like about the 70, easy to swing all day and it's good on batteries, now the 705 has a back-light :)
Both have their strengths and weaknesses at different sites and ground conditions and are no slouch when stacked up against anything else out there ( and better than most IMO ) ... other than pulse induction machines in certain situations .... and they have their place too.
But yes .. as much as I love the Explorer ... I would never feel disadvantaged at all to hunt with the 70 ... especially if you have most of the available coils to choose from.

Hey Mark, where are you located at?

SE is the only way to go. The xterra only gives you the one number to look at with your signal, SE give you 2. They both are good but more info the better while hunting to eliminate the holes that dont need dug and off the the good ones. Only my opinion. Good luck, JOHN

I moved to the X-Terra 70 a few years ago because of health. I hunt along side an Explorer every week and we are pretty well matched.
I don't seem to have a proble with a lot of junk. If you listen to the tones like you do with the explorers, they tell you a lot'
As for depth, I've dug coins at 10 + inches with no problem under average soil conditions.
I'm giving away an X-Terra 705 at my hunt.

Hey Mark, I am in Springfield too. Let's get together sometime and you can see how my Explorer SE compares to your xterra
