Explorer XS Problem

New member
Hi all, i am new to this site and this could be the answer to my problem, I have owned my Explorer XS for about 4 years with no problems but now the off/on button has started to play up, This is the problem i am now facing when i press the button it wont come on? and say it could be an hour or sometimes it could be up to 8 hours it will start up on its own Has anyone ever faced this problem or am i the 1st, Please help i am now getting withdrawal symtoms, Thanks to all of you in advance

First check your battery contacts on your battery pack and make sure you have fresh batteries. My real guess is that you do have a bad on/off button and one of the problems that I was having with my XS before I finally sent her in to Minelab for repair. They ended up putting new guts in her, new keypad and new face or front cover. Sorry for the bad news, but you better get use to withdrawals as it took a whole month to get my XS reparied. Get her in for repairs and take up golf for a little while. Good luck and hope this helps.

if your on-off switch is broken, you have to change all control panel top with all switches, another possibility is-carefully take of the top plastic with switches names on it and check your problem, this operations a bit complicated, so try to take off rain cover and check your switch gain-massage it, maybe this will help. good luck

Jeff----It's been quite awhile ago but there was a guy that posted here haveing those same problems.---He said it might be "so & so" long & it would come on by itself---that it had even come on in the middle of the night in their bedroom when he & his wife were asleep---makeing wierd noises.---Two or three of us guys got to jokeing with him that he had a "haunted" detector, etc. :) ---I think he had to end up sending it in for repair.-----Also, I had one that was doing something similar to what you are describeing.---I couldn't get it to come on & when I kept working with it, it would FINALLY come on.--Then, my wife & I were in our motorhome, traveling down the road on a trip.--She kept hearing something (I couldn't hear it) & asked me what those "wierd" noises were.---The thing had come on by itself that time also.---Anyway, I ended up haveing to send it in & Minelab gave me a whole new control box.----Fortunately it was still under warranty at that time.--I would hate to have to pay for the repair after warranty though (ouch)!---In any case, if you are going to send it in---better do it before that 10 year time limit is up with Minelab.--They won't even work on detectors that are over 10 years old (and I think that is a SAD policy).----I have a friend that has an XS & she said that Minelab told her that at this point they were still working on XS's.----Hope things work out for you.-----Del

So im not the 1st after all, its funny reading the reply because mine has come on in the car and at night and when you want it to work it wont, i think i will have a play around with it and if i dont have any luck then it will have to go to Minelab for repair, many thanks to you all Jeff

My spare XS has come on by itself in the middle of the night before. I don't have any problems with it powering on/off by the button when I want it to though. I don't keep the battery in my machines when they're going to hang on the wall for any length of time (like during the winter or when my spare isn't going to be used for awhile)
