Explorer XS value

New member
I have been thinking about purchasing an Explorer XS, I have located one new in the box, with the standard 10" coil and a smaller black round coil and the owner will throw in a new 10" DD coil that was packaged
in England and the packaging states that it is for the E-Trac. I realize I am not giving enough information on the three coils, but I've never owned a Minelab and don't even know how to describe them. What would
this detector be worth since it is new and has all of these coils as part of the package?I have always wanted to try a Minelab and this Explorer XS seems to present a good opportunity for me to get setup with one. I lurk and read quite a bit on the various Minelab forums and I am really impressed with the finds you guys are making. Regards!

Thanks for your response. I can purchase this detector for $675.00. I need to get more information about the three coils that come with it and see if you guys use them or if they are seldom used. By the way, The coil made in england is used on an X-terra. I keep trying to make this a good deal, but even though the detector itself is new. I would probably end up purchasing a couple more coils and I might have to much money in it. Regards

The 10" DD coil for the eTrac might be the Pro Coil which is a good coil. Get the guy to tell you who makes each of the coils and what the model # is then you can see if the package price is worth it. Maybe you ought to just get a new eTrac or SE pro - little more money, but you significantly reduce your risk. If it were me I'd pass on it unless it were $400 - $450 for the package.

If you're not in a hurry, you should wait for a better bargain. I've seen nice XS's go for as low as $325. Add a $195 pro coil (which is all you need) and you've got one of the best detectors available.

Few weeks ago I was looking for my friend a Explorer ll and I called a dealer. I asked if he had any used his answer was no and then he said I do have a brand new one for $1400.....:surprised:hahaha I said I think I will pass!!!! That is nothing against the detector but that was silly high priced by the time you got the probe and pro coil holy #%$& you would have a fortune wrapped up in it like $1800+. Anyway when I bought my Exp ll paid $550 and that was with the pro coil I just had to buy a probe and the detector looked brand new came with box and everything that a new one would of coarse I got it from a friend but there are deals out there if you just be patient but yeah that sounds a little high for a XS and I think you will find out the pro coil is all that matters or should I say for me. Lots of luck and HH.........Joe

Thanks to everyone who responded with some advice on this question. I will just hold on this deal and look for something else. It's not like I can't wait a few days. It's almost too hot to get out and hunt, except for real early in the morning. We're having 97 degree days with high humidity down here in western Ky. Regards to everyone!!

Well if it's new in the box with everything that came with it, original 10.5" coil, also has a new 8" coil and a new pro coil (if it is a pro coil) I'd say the price is fairly decent, maybe try $600, if he will take it. I like my XS and I have no real desire to upgrade to a newer Explorer as it's a great machine and will punch just as deep as any of the newer ones and has more bells and whistles than I'll probably ever use, 10 years old and still works like a charm!

I am certain the XS is new, and the large round coil is cream colored, but the 8" round coil is black. I have discovered that the DD shaped coil is made for an X-terra, So that means I would be getting only two coils I could use on the detector. He is firm on his price so I should probably just hold off on this deal. Regards

Bobby I agree you can find a better deal!

Hi Chuck, I live south of Paducah, Ky in a small town named Wingo. I will be 62 Yrs. old this fall and still enjoy getting out and coin hunting when the weather isn't too hot. I thought I might go ahead and purchase an Explorer and get familiar with it some before the cooler weather reaches us this fall. I would like to meet you and hunt sometime. I am presently using an IDX Pro

i'll be 62 in dec. i used a sovereign. i got a t-2 but have done done very good with it. i haven't hunted a lot with the xs because of the heat but i can already tell its better than the t-2

Just look under Metal Detectors in the Electronics Section on Ebay and punch in Minelab XS or just Minelab when you are in the Detector Section of Ebay. It will then bring up all Minelabs and there is always a few Older XS's or Explorer II's on auction. Good Luck and HH!:detecting:

To help others with any problems or questions that they may have. Glad to help! Good Luck and HH to you.
