explorer XS

Can pick up a used explorer XS in good condition. Is it still a wise thing to do? I hunt mainly farmlands..

Thanks, Eric.

I wouldn't trade mine for anything, and it was used when I got it also. For open field hunting it's the greatest, deepest detector I know. The only thing I did was got a Teknetics T2 for the iron con jested sites. Oh by the way, I hunt in all metal.

You still would have a very potent detector on your hands. Picking up a clean XS at a good price would let you invest in some additional coils to really expand its verstility . . . . . . .

Terry, I don't believe you meant to say you "hunt in all metal". To truly do that, you'd be hunting in pinpoint mode.

I think what you meant to say was, that you hunt with your discriminate screen totally opened up (nothing blacked out), and in ferrous mode (so iron has its distinctive low grunt, and all other targets have their ascending TID scale tones). That is different from "all metal" because in reality, you're still in discriminate mode. You're merely using your ears to decide what you're going to dig, and what you're going to pass (based on tones).

Just ask Don in South Jersey or James in North Dakota! The newer ones have some different features but the XS will find good targets if they are hiding.

I've hunted mine hard for 8 years, only had to get the housing cam-lock fixed and the 1/8" headphone jack replaced with a 1/4" one. I'm not replacing mine anytime soon. The only issue I have is weight, big open areas with little trash wear my arm out in about three hours.

Okay, thanks for your answers. The XS is on the way to me now and I hope I can get used to it soon.

HH, Eric.
