Explorer XS ??

I have an explorer XS and I was wondering when they were first made? There's an idea on the table at Minelab to consider anything over 10 years old unrepairable. These units will no longer be serviced. I would like to know if my detector falls under this category.

I just sent in my XS to get the earphone jack replaced and the upper clamp that holds the top part to the shaft replaced. They also did a general tune-up to be sure everything is working. Cost was around $55 (including shipping). It's due back this week. They must still be working on them unless you have a part that they no longer make or have in stock.

I think they came out in late 1998, however I would guess that if they did stop repairing them after 10 years it would have to be 10 years after they stopped making them, not 10 years after the they first came out.. Not quite sure when the II came out but it was a few years later.. so you should be good a few years... and I am sure even then someone else would be able to repair most things using used parts.. sort of like going to the junk yard for getting parts for old cars :)

recently I was looking to purchase an XS and inquired with Minelab about your concern. I received an email that they wouljd indeed service these. It was an issue as a frien had a problem with his and sent it in. They sent it back and said they had no parts for it. He sent it back again and they sent him a brand new SE!.

The way I understand it is that any detector that is 10 years old will be considered unrepairable. I was following the link on the sovereign forum.
