Exploring an old site never done before!

Hello all, Thought I'd share our little story here. Hope you find it interesting and amusing. Garry and I had an eventful past two days, north of here. We headed for a very old mining settlement in the heart of bush country. This town was called BB Creek, the BB standing for Bare Buttocks! The old timers called it this, because in the event of looking for gold, often landed on their bottoms, or tore their clothes getting through the dense scrub, down the steep mountains. There was even a tiny Chinese camp there, hence we were hoping to find some chinese coins. Garry wanted to check it out for years and we believed this to be new undetected ground. He believed that, because of where it was and the difficulty getting in, it would not have been visited by man for many years! The problem lay in that, the town was situated in one of the steepest gullies. So armed with a GPS, compass and co-ordinates detectors and picks, we began our descent to our destination of about one kilometre away. Well, we found what had to be the old pub site by the creek, and some stone walling along the old miner's tracks in. It was near to impossible to detect on the sites, so we detected the creek for a bit. We got a lot of signals but it was hard to pinpoint for all the iron trash and heavy mineralization. Garry had a bit of a mishap. He fell over a log at the bottom, swung his pick around the log to prevent himself from falling further down, with the pick coming up under the log and hitting him in the top lip. He got two stiches last night put in at the hospital. Took us 5 hours to get out the bush and drive there! But what an interesting area. The old timer's really had their work cut out for them, but from the records, they won a lot of rich gold. It was nice to relive those days in our minds, standing there in the ferns. But be warned, heaps of leeches!!!

Hi Angela, sorry to hear about Garry's mishap. Sure looks green down there, that scrub looks thick. One thing I don't have to worry about at the moment is grass and the like, it's all just about bare dirt around here. I really enjoy researching and exploring those old places. Those old blokes did it hard, but sometimes they worked and lived in the most beautiful spots..... Ken.

thanks for sharing that with us a great looking site,
but a bit too steep for my liking, and a tad too much
undergrowth...lol....cheers paul.
