external speaker failure ( xterra 70)

Nock

New member
I was detecting this evening without headphones and suddenly the external audio stopped working. I put headphones on and audio sounds worked good, unplugged headphones there was no audio sounds. Has anybody experienced this and can give me advice how to fix this problem, I have called Minelab and waiting on their return call.

Thanks Nock

Sometimes when the battery level is low, the speaker stops working while allowing for headphones to continue. If that isn't the case, I'd guess that the contact pileup in the headphone jack isn't allowing the contacts for the speaker to make connection when the headphones are plugged in. If it were mine, I'd plug the headphones in and out repeatedly, to see if that clears it up. Could be something as simple as some dust on those speaker contacts. If it is, spraying a little bit of air (like those cans of compressed air for PC's) wouldn't hurt. If that don't fix it and the batteries are strong, I suppose a wire could of come loose from the speaker connection. But that don't seem likely if you didn't drop it and it stopped suddenly. My bet is on low batteries or dirty contacts. JMHO HH Randy

Tried these suggestions and they worked for me , Thanks Digger

My external speaker has also quit working for some time, so I only use headphones. Plugging it in and out repeatedly(and turning the headphone socket around a few times) solved the problem and worked for me too! Thanks Randy(Digger).
