f 70 tones

this may be dumb question but what is a good setting for tones for hunting coins? I have been using 2 tone and just want to know if I should be using 3, 3f or the 4's. just want to know if I am missing any thing by hunting with 2 tone.

i like 3 tones on my f70
a lot of my jewelry falls between the foil & nickle range (mid tone) & coins fall high tone
