F/S: Tesoro Stingray underwater detector...

Pete in MI

New member
Here is the pics for this underwater detector.(can be used on land, beach and underwater).

The photos show the condition of the unit. Pretty good shape. The shaft has scratches on it from previous owner(s) neglect.. The insides are in great shape as well.

Even the rubber on the handle grip is in good shape. Coil is an 8 inch concentric and has some scratches on the bottom.

Takes only 6 - AA batteries (not included) Battery life is 15-30 hours. Operating modes: VLF All Metal, TR Discriminate, VLF Discriminate. Operating frequency is 10kHz.. Headphone in good shape too. I have extra coil wing nuts and plastic 'bolts' for holding the coil in place.

There is a small bag (for goodies I think) that comes with it.. Instruction booklet and a magazine from Tesoro also included. Also a small bottle of silicone for keeping the rubber gasket from rotting and drying out.

Looking for $375 which includes shipping via the U.S. Post Office (we don't have UPS up here any more unfortunately).

Prefer payment via Paypal. I bought this about 2 - almost 3 years ago and hasn't been used a lot. (It did find a nice 1937 Midland High School class ring in Houghton Lake so I know it loves gold.)

This is for FRESHWATER use. So if you're looking for something to use in Salt water this is not the unit you want. Can be used under water down to 200 feet. Very light weight unit.

The Stingray DOES NOT have interchangeable coils. This is pretty much the same as the Tesoro Tiger Shark but a lot less expensive.

I said Freshwater only because I had someone wanting to buy it before then backed out because he said it could not be used in salt water. There were several articles and web sites that said and showed the unit being use in salt water without any problem. So I said freshwater only to keep from running into this problem again. Not saying it won't work in salt water - just trying to not get into an argument or lose a sale over it. Right now it is set up fine for the freshwater of Michigan.

Hope that answers your question.

A more specific answer from the instruction manual as to what SALT setting is used for....The top left knob is the Discriminate Level Control

"DISCRIMINATE LEVEL CONTROL

This control is used to adjust the detectors response to unwanted metallic trash when the detector is used in the Discriminate mode. Since the range of this control reaches from the All Metal (lowest end) up through Screw Cap (highest end), it gives complete control for compensation of wet salt beaches when used in the TR Discriminate mode as well,"

Hope that helps.

Hi Pete-
I just noticed your post and may be interested in your detector. I lost a gold pendant in a lake near home in about 10-15 feet of water (fresh). We know the approximate location, but have not been able to find it visually. Please contact me so that we can talk further.
