F2 and NEL Hunter

I finally got to use the NEL Hunter on my F2. After two days of use I can tell you the following.

The bad: I am 78 and the extra weight made me shift hands more often than usual. Oh to be young again. It may be a little heavier, but I will live with it.

Also, the chatter was so bad inside the house when I first put it on that I thought it was being sent back. Once I was outside, it was okay. Huge relief. No other coil has reacted so dramatically crazy as this one had in the house.

The good: My 8" coil will not be going back on the F2 in a hurry. I just spent two days on the only decent, but overworked, beach in the area. Everybody comes here and it is hard to find much. I was finding coins faster than ever. The Hunter was finding coins at about two or three times the 8" coil rate. I usually would find three or four coins in a day, but I found eight and twelve coins in the last two days.

Most coins were at four inches, but some dimes were around six inches deep. Nothing deeper than that was found. No excess chatter even though this sand drove the 8" coil crazy at times. Pinpointing was easy. Depth readings seemed inconsistent, but the ID'ing was consistently good.

I wish it had the weight of the Sharpshooter, but I am keeping the Hunter. This has been a fun two days.

78! So am I. So I know what you mean about the extra weight. I don't know what the NEL coil is, but it sounds very interesting. Keep on swinging we don't have a lot of time left. Oldknifemaker

When I bought the F-2, I picked it up with the 3 coil option. The small 4" is ideal for trashed out places or locations that you need to get near metal posts, fences, or walls and will get you into tight places like in between rocks and around brush or exposed roots much better. I've used the 8" coil and it serves it's purpose as a concentric coil so no complaints but I seem to gravitate towards my 3rd Fisher coil, the 11" DD coil. In my part of Idaho, we do have Hot and Cold rocks and so this coil seems to tame the machine down a bit though the inexperienced would have a tougher time pin pointing with it and is most likely why they threw in an inexpensive hand held pin pointer as a bonus item that I keep around but never use.

I have heard of the NEL brand of search coils but being one who does not have deep pockets, it would be prohibitive for me to just dive into trying out all the after market coils to see how they perform. It's rare here that anyone writes about the F-2 and I think it is rather unfortunate because it is a great machine though I am a firm believer that around 90% of detecting success is more dependent on the operator. I certainly appreciate your sharing about this NEL Hunter coil used with the F-2. There is nothing wrong with looking for that better edge and maybe you will share more of your experiences with the NEL option.
