F2 chatter ????

deano003

New member
I had a problem at the end of the day today with chatter. It began to bounce around a lot, but worked fine all day. I reduced sensitivity down and it didn't change. I did however notice that the battery was missing one bar???

sometimes mine goes into a crazy chatter loop and bounces around all over the place.

I end up turning it off for a while and that sorts it out most times

Has happened with both of my F2's

try even taking the Batteries out for a few minutes

Anybody else have this problem?

I had it happen twice this weekend with my F70. I was hunting with a group of guys with other machines, there may have been some "crosstalk;" but in any case, it went ballistic. Only lasted a minute or two, then it calmed down. Not sure, but doesn't seem to be a big deal.

It may not be detector specific. Most experienced folks know that there have been new sources of interference cropping up over the last 10 years or so that we get to try and deal with with our detectors. About a month ago, I was checking a detector I have and it was going absolutely nuts in a manner and to a degree I've never experienced before. I thought there was a problem with that detector but after awhile and in an attempt to confirm, I tried all my other detectors and they all were doing the same thing. Didn't matter if it was a single or multi or what "channel" was being used. Didn't matter id I was indoors or out. My point is there seems to be a new source that when present, causes more havoc than any in the past. It was gone in a few hours and all operated "normally". Just something to consider and be aware of.....

Very interesting, Brad. In my particular case, this was only for a minute or two -- once near the beginning of my hunt, and once near the end; in between, it was just fine. Had never experienced anything like it. I was sure the detector was toast.

One other thing I will bring up though, that just MIGHT have something to do with it...deano, does your F2 have a screw-in type connector on the control box for the coil wire? Mine does; aside from these two brief machine "freak outs," I had a case where my machine stopped working properly (same hunt, same day). It was reading weird, so I stuck my boot out, and the metal eyelets were reading "iron." I thought NO WAY. So I pulled out a quarter, tossed it in the grass, and it gave a digital "15" read out, and iron tone. I said "what the heck??" I then checked the screw-in connector. It was a little loose; tightened it up, ran back over the quarter, and it was all back to normal. So, I don't know if the "loose connection" may have been part of the "interference" issue; I can't remember if I tightened the coil wire before or after that last case of the machine going ballistic, but it's at least POSSIBLE that I tightened it AFTER both instances of that "interference-type freak out," and thus that the loose coil wire could have been related to the issue...

Ya my F2 does have the screw in, and I didn't even think about it being loose..It has never done that to me before, and i remember I checked the plug before I went out and it was tight. Weird!!! Maybe its the solar flares? HAHAHA

Also, If hunting around a place with a lot of
A.) Cell phone users. or,
B.) Heaven forbid, a Cell phone tower.

It will wreck havoc on anything sensitive to EMI.
Even if you hunt with a cell phone on you, it will intermittently cause EMI bursts.

We have recently had M and X class solar flares. Also magnetic pole shifting is accelerating. Seismic activity will release powerful, but very brief bursts of EMF. All of these things will be happening w/increased frequency over the next two years. These events are disruptive long-cycle occurrences. They take place every 3,500 years or so. It's not a good thing to deal w/, but it has happened to our planet many, many times.

My F2 went crazy again today. Without even moving it, it bounces all around. hold it in the air and it gets a lot worse. It really drives me nuts, but I did find what I think to be a 1910 Oxford Plate co. spoon.
