F2 Fisher---is it any good?

Looking for a lightweight, metered detector that will hit coins to 6"

I bought one for my wife because it was light and a good value. I was pleasantly surprised at it's abilities. It is not difficult to learn and will get you hooked on the hobby. If you cab afford the difference try the F4.

its lightweight / fun / a real coin magnet
f 2 rocks

5 inch is closer to it's max. But it's a lightweight coin magnet. I love mine

A good friend of mine swings an F2 with the 8" round concentric coil and it easily hits coin size objects at 8". Granted ground conditions play a large role in determing any detectors maximum depth so it will vary accordingly but 5 inches isn't giving the F2 credit where it's due imho. It is definitely a coin magnet though as is the F4. The only advantage of the F4 over the F2 is the ability to adjust Ground Balance to compensate for mineralization which gives it a slight edge. That being said, even without adjustable GB the F2 does very well and with some tweaking of sensitivity can be used quite successfully in wet salt sand as well. Great detector for the price.

I think with the f4 and the f2 you can get a reliable, repeatable vdi signal signal, with the 8" coil down to 5 - 6 inches... yes you will get a signal deeper 8 - 9" in good conditions but your vdi will be less reliable for a coin.

My F2 with the 10" coil has been a tag-a-long detector while relic hunting here in Va. It has made a few first time hunters very happy. Several of the many Civil War bullets found were deeper than 6 inches. I have used the 4" coil around house site foundations myself and was impressed.

I have had my F-2 since October 09, It is a real coin magnet I love it , have found over $50 in change oldest was a 1898 I.H. at six inches I have tagged stuff deeper than that with the 4 inch coil ( found a irrigation pipe at about 10 inches once, only had the detector for a week lol ), their is some draw backs but for a beginner or a back up it is an awesome deal . I have also found various tokens and jewelry.
