F2 old and the new

Nice morning out at a local school. Enough modern stuff for a bottle of red and enough old stuff to make it interesting. Three pennys , a half penny, a shilling and the smallest coin is a 1924 threepence. The fact that the threepence is 92.5% silver helps when detecting those tiny coins. 1 and 2 cent coins are no longer legal tender in Australia.

Good going Alimo, nice to still be getting the old pr-decimal coins eh!
Aussie cut $1 coins ! I thought our British cousins were the only ones finding cut coins...

I sent you a P.M mate...
I have a new T2 skid plate I can't use, it won't fit my F75s !

Snowy :detecting:

I have been using the 4 inch lately and it picks out the older 1 and 2 cent coins at the school with ease. I just pinpoint and dig them for practice. I do get excited when the number is 80 plus though. Normally a copper pipe cut off. Hey but it's all fun.

nice finds!

what would you say the going rate for a used f2 is these days?

im still debating over the f2, ace 250, or delta 4000 :goodnight:

Not the ace 250. The other two are almost identical. Buy new with three coils and the pinpointer.

you mean the f2?

is the 10" coil a huge upgrade over the stock 8"? I do understand that the 4" is great for 'junk riddled areas'.

thanks!

For the few extra bucks why not get the 3 coil package.? I posted a message to see if an F2 owner would do a 8 inch verses 10 inch in air comparison. Alas no takers. In some sites an extra inch or two could make a big difference. I will pm the guy with all three coils. Look at some of my old posts and pics if you feel like it.

thanks!

Its interesting seeing what you find in Aussie... its similar here in New Zealand, though I was wondering where I would find so many older Australian pennies.. until I found out that New Zealand didn't have its own currency till after 1933. Actually found two pennies this last weekend both cut.. amongst a bunch of other stuff. ( i have photos on my blog.)

@bthom I have a nice little detector book/ field guide here at home. It has a great section on old Australian coins with their sizes and alloy composition as a function of date. It also has a great section on precious metal alloys and their markings and a great section on the conductivity series. Are you using the F2?

We have bought an F2 (with the three coils) and an f4 ..so we will have a bunch of coils to play with, which are currently sitting in customs here in Auckland, so hopefully in a day or two we will be away. Until now I have been using some cheap Chinese thing I got for $100.. in less than three months we have pulled just over $200 modern kiwi money 1 silver and two gold rings.. and a collection of old money and foreign coins.. its been fun.

Man are you in for a treat, did you go fleabay? you will love those machines. Keep me informed of your finds.

yep .. fleabay from the states.... the f2 has arrived .. the f4 is in customs.. .. they want more money from me for that one... had a quick go with the f2..., your comment about me being in for a treat... man is that true, it was a real eye opener, bits of the garden which I had thought hunted out with the chinese thing...signals everywhere, real ones too (I checked)... now I cant wait for my f4 and really learn it.

Found a NZ two dollar today, came in at 65. I did a huge range of air tests with the 4 inch coil over a plastic stool i have. I seperated the "coil and shaft" from the "main body and shaft"
at the cam join and had the readout sticking out of my golf bag. try some silver rings and different carat gold rings and all your NZ coin. and pull tabs oh I have a hint
when I first got the machine I wrote all the coin numbers on a small sheet of paper and double sided taped it to the top of the detector head. good luck

@BTHOM have a look at all my posts
maybe you can do the coil test 8 verses 10 inch regards extra depth even in air
thanks

yes... when I get the 11"dd with the f4 I will do a big test with the four coils with both machines..and a range of targets should be interesting. I like your idea with the list and the numbers taped to the unit until you learn... i have a feeling I'll learn pretty fast... there seems to be plenty of places around where i can to go, and judging by the ease of finding the old pennys , not hunted yet..perfect.
