F4 Specs

I am considering picking up an F4. I went to the Fisher site but the links to the specifications page for both the F2 and the F4 are not "hot links". Can anyone provide the specs? I don't see any in the user guide which is surprising. It almost appears that Fisher is hiding something.

I guess since there was not even one view on the topic I was not clear with the title. Thanks!

Unless you live on high mineralization soil or want to hunt a lot of salt water beaches, there's no point getting the F4 over the F2. They have the same boards and processors. Those who own both say they have the same depth, in good soil of course. So unless you need the manual GB, I'd suggest you get the F2 and a garrett propointer or some coils instead. Otherwise save up for the F5.

They don't have them posted.
Frequency is 6.8 kHz per Andy's field test.

It seems like there are many more differences between the two than the coil. The F4 has many more features, such as All Metal (Auto Tune), a Manual GB, 11 Notch discrimination. ( I would never consider buying either one new, but I have an opportunity to pick up a used F4). It's not always just about the processor.

I bought an F4 back in May of this year. Since then I have found with it, 31 Silver coins, 133 Wheats, 1 IH, 1 Gold ring,1 Silver ring, many tokens and other assorted relics. I just graduated to an F75 Ltd. Wouldn't take nothing for the F4. Its a GREAT machine. All I can say is IT FINDS STUFF! But, on a serious note. IMHO it dosent matter what machine you have. If you understand metal detecting and become one with your machine, you will find all you want.

I think I did good on this one. It looks like it is good shape and I got it for a good price. It is my first Fisher so I will give it a try for a while and see how I like it!

F2 and F4 are build on same platform. The platform's ancestry is traceable to the original (and still venerated) George Payne Teknetics of the 1980's. The F2 and F4 differ primarily in what features are offered.

Someone posted well intentioned but erroneous information regarding operating frequency. It's actually 5.9 kHz.

Someone also posted that there were problems with a website link, suggesting that we were "hiding something". I haven't checked out the links yet, most of the time in my experience with the Internet, dead links aren't dead, it's just an Internet malfunction or a temporary problem resulting from website reconstruction. I'll check up on this thread to see what other people report regarding link problems and if it turns out there really is a problem, I'll report it to our website management people asking them to fix it.

The F2/4 have obvious similarities to some Bounty Hunter and related private label products. Those similarities haven't emerged so far as an "issue" in this thread but it's happened so many times in the past that I feel compelled to comment. The Fisher F2/4 are major revisions of an earlier BH (etc.) platform which in turn originated with the 1980's Teknetics. The said BH platforms are nothing to be ashamed of, they offer very good value in their price ranges and as I already said their ancestry is traceable to the 1980's Teknetics which were the high end machines of their day and from the perspective of performance are still highly regarded. BH quality control problems which came about under 1990's Turner management were resolved years ago under present management, partly through acceptance of production methods long since regarded as essential in the electronics industry (i.e. not shade tree mechanic methods); and partly through platform re-engineering to minimize production variation.

In the approximately $200-500 MSRP category, our company presently offers a number of different machines under several trademarks. They all work, and all have happy customers. What represents the best value for a particular customer depends on what that customer's needs are, and what the distribution system offers for that particular customer. There is no one "right" answer.

I picked up the detector yesterday and must say I was impressed with the depth that the F4 attained, especially in the Auto Tune mode!
