F5 and 13" Ultimate coil

foreign object

New member
I'm new to metal detecting and have spent a lot of time this past 3 weeks reading and reading and reading a lot right here. I have learned a lot to say the least. I know that i have not even scratched the surface. Pardon the pun-please

Any way i was wondering what if any benefit i would get out of the 13" coil on my F5? And other than being heavier what would be the down side?

I have low to very low mineralization for the most part where i will do a large part of my hunting. I have access to several mid to late 1800's home sites one of which is still standing and was originally a boarding house for traveling salesman. First 3 inches of this place is trash heaven but seeing as though it belongs to my wife and her sister i have permission to remove the top 3-4 inches with my tractor and box blade. Just have to repair when done. Two other places are on property that i own so i can do as i please with them.

I look forward to learning more from you guys as time goes on.

You would be able to cover more ground faster and the 13" coil I have seems to be a bit deeper than the 11" DD. The only draw back may be more prone to EMI and if the area was still real trashy after you scraped it then you may be more prone to masking.

Bill S thanks for the info. More depth is what i am looking for. I have dug nails and other items down as deep as 8" and more.
Thanks

I bet it would be but not for sure. If those coils work on the F5 then the ultimate should work on those detectors. I tried the ultimate on the F70 and it seemed to work ok.

Wow! You get to take off the topsoil eh? I'd hit it for old glory first, then just go that 3" depth if possible, and hit 'er again...who knows what an old traveling saleman left behind? If you scrape off the topsoil, and see a disturbed piece of ground like where an old outhouse stood, you really could find some cool stuff. Just pay attention to the dirt, it will tell you...You know those old places had multiple outhouse and ash dump locations...and the oldsters buried their loot where they could keep an eye on it...This should be really fun for you! What a great project! You keep us posted and let us know whats up will ya? The only thing us modern salesmen leave behind is unpaid bills and underwear!
