F5 and GoldBug 2.9er air test comparison

I did this test last night when I got my Goldbug 29er.

The test results are from repeatable ticks at fast sweeps speeds. I'd never get this kind of performance in my mineralized ground. But it is still neat to see how the two units compare. The F5 was set at 0 threshold.

Thanks Mike, not a surprise the GB hitting hard on low conductor targets.
The small rings stand out.
The GB has a edge from what i have seen with other FT machines
in that i can max out the gain on the Bug most of the time thus
giving it a fair fight on the high conductor targets.

Seems like the F5 and GB2 is on a level par with coins, so it should make a good coin shooting unit.

As for the gold stats, I'm sure they both will perform as well as each other, it's early days and more in the field reports are needed to swing it in favour of the GB2.

Just out of interest, whats the freq of the GB2 ? We know the F5 is 7.8kHz.

The Goldbug 29er might could do ok for some coin hunting. The Goldbug 2 wouldn't be a good choice.


The GB2 runs at 71kHz and looks like this:

OK, seems there are 3 versions of this new Gold Bug ....

1/ Gold Bug SE @ MSRP $549.00 and comes with a 5" DD coil (water proof).

2/ Gold Bug Pro @ MSRP $699.00 and comes with a 5" DD coil (water proof).

3/ Gold Bug DP @ MSRP $749.00 and comes with a 11" DD coil (water proof).

The Pro and DP have the same front sticker / face plate. Other than that I can not see any difference in the discription of all three ! Maybe someone from Fisher / FTP can chime in here and tell us what the Pro and DP has over the SE ?

The Gold Bug would not be my first choice as a coin shooter. The F 5 / Omega have more setting and adjustments
than the GB .The bug was not made to hit silver the O8 is .
There is a deference , the bug works for my hunting style.

The Gold Bug SE / Pro and G2 are very very close with the same coil.
The SE came out at a good deal upon release.
The price bumped up with other units.

The new $ 549 unit is just a plain Gold Bug( has no SE after it) no manual GB and one tone VCO ( its like Cabelas model) with 5" coil

The Gold Bug Pro $ 699 is the new version of what SE was( SE no longer offered except exsisting stock) same features new name and higher price. 5" coil ,has manual GB VCO modulation

Glod Bug DP $749 is same as the Pro but comes only with the 11" coil,manual GB VCO modulation

The new $549 model is not like the Cabellas model in that the cabellas model has both manual and ground grab ground balancing. Why they took this feature away one can only guess. (to justify the higher price of the others) The only difference between a SE and A cabellas model is modulated audio in disc mode. I would put my cabellas model against a SE in air tests and ground tests and bet I would not see any difference except the SE would be harder to hear deep targets. In return you get more info from the audio of the SE. I find that the modulated audio in all metal allows me to get the same info except I have to switch back and forth between the two. Just my opinion but the cabellas model has one more function than the se and that is the solid tone break on deep targets as they already both had modulated audio in all metal. As I am deaf in one ear this is great for me and also allows me to hunt with me headphones on my neck and still hear my two tone responses.
Just my two cents not to anger anyone with a bad a## 2.9er.
