F5 hitting silver for me!

I'll try and make this short.

I volunteer for the Jefferson County humane society here, and we were doing a fund raiser this past Saturday and the humane society director was there. Well, the humane society owns the property of the current location, plus an adjacent homestead next door. Recently they purchased a new location down the road where there used to be an old turkey farm, and was later torn down and turned in to a furniture store. The property is broken down in to three sections; the house and main hard, the site where the furniture store was torn down, and a big open lot of grass, and all of this is surrounded by farms. Anyway, I asked for permission to hunt all of this, and the director said, "SURE, but only if you promise to come over and hunt my yard!" Then she starts telling me that her house was one of the first homes in my city, and that it was build in the early to mid 1800's! I'm thinking, "what kind of luck do I have?!?!!" Hell yeah I'll come over and hunt your 200 year old house! (not to mention that Fort Atkinson, the original fort, was only a few blocks away from where she lives, so God only knows what I'll find there!
Anyway, my first trip out there yielded the following in the pics. I found three pieces of old toys. One is the back end of an old car, possible a Tootsie Toy brand, one is the steering wheel of an old metal tractor and the REALLY old piece is what appears to be the right side of an old toy gun. I know it's REALLY OLD because is says "Made in the USA" on the side!
Found a ton of clad, mostly from the 60's and 70's, a 1940 silver dime (me loves silver), and OLD Coty of New York lipstick case (heavy, too), a flat button that has the coat of arms of Netherland on it, and the pride of the day was a 24.2 gram, 925 sterling silver spoon made by Towle Silversmiths. Here's a link to where you can buy a new ONE. Check out the price to have to replace this baby in your set! LOL New spoon

Anyway, it was a great day, and it will take many weeks to cover the rest of this property, if not the rest of the summer. I still have the 1850 church site that I have to do yet! Good days are ahead! :super:

Oh yeah, I forgot the best part! You see those two areas that are bent on the spoon, well, those are from my super-de-dooper Lesche diggin' tool! Yup, I thought I was digging up some garbage aluminum, so I was cranking away on her, and then I saw the pretty design and that silly little word "sterling" on it. :rage:

Anyway, lesson learned, if you don't know what it is in that thar hole, don' go abusin' it, ya hear me?

This post is worthy of the Surprised, Drool, Puke icons! Yep, looks like you got your summer all figured out! No more totlots and schoolyards for you, get in there and have a great time! Oh, I guess my schedule somehow cleared itself up a bit...ifn you want some coin popping tutorial that is...Great finds, and really great post about how a person just has to ask around a little, and also how volunteering for anything is usually a good way to meet interesting people!:clapping:

Love that sterling spoon! Makes you wonder how that was lost in the first place. Sounds like you have an awesome place out there!

Very nice!, except for the dents, of course, which could happen to anyone

I agree with mudpuppy, your summer hunting grounds are all set!

What a great combination of smileys! lol

Au contraire, I shall be adding this TO the parking lot runs! The parking lots are a great place to practive the "probe and pop" technique of the screwdriver! :wiggle: Mud, you know you're always welcome over here in Cheeseland, just let me know when you're comin'!

Geo, let me know when you want to go, and we'll hit the property out there!

Mike - Yeah, happen to anyone with less than eight weeks of experience, maybe. lol You pros know better! lol

Naw....wait until you cut your headphone cord cutting a plug. Then you'll be a pro

Wow, nice finds. Love that spoon. Looks like a summer full of happiness for you. Spots sound great. Maybe.....just maybe......try cutting a bit larger plug next time. You don't want to put a kiss on that 1st silver half you dig. Like I did years ago. HH jim tn

Hi stilpony
As much as I love silver myself, I have to say my favourite is your button, what is on the other side? Do you think a dress button or military?
Sounds like you have a very helpful director, did the lady mention her garden?
Well done mate, I had an ok day myself just cleaning my finds, will post them later
Regards
Foggy

Hey stilpony,

Really, really nice finds!!:clapping: And may I say, I for one always enjoy your posts (insert warm fuzzy) and lets not forget your supportive comments to other forum members.

Take care,:detecting: HH

Mike - TOO funny about the headphone cord! I haven't done that, but I've been tempted to cut it on purpose a few times. My cord runs from my left ear down to the detector, so whenever I swing to the right, it stretches the cord out, only to return to it's normal shape when swinging to my left side again, pinching my shirt and tugging on it all the time; drives me nuts! :hot: lol

Jim - Luckily I got that trick out of the way this past weekend on my 1940 silver dime. oops.

Foggy - not sure on the button. The back looks really old, but I've seen on the net that there were reproductions on these buttons, or fakes, or something, so hard to say the age on this thing. If you look at this button, the front almost looks lacquered. Who knows, it's pretty cool to find a button, even if it might be a fake/repro.

Knarfj - Thanks for the kind words! You might change your opinion of me if you ever see my post after I cut my cord on my headphones!

Wow nice finds Frank. Good turf u got there. Sounds like you got some nice potential hunting grounds!! hh rick in mi
