F70-----10"Elliptical vs 5x10"DD coils air tested

Did a little testing tonight as i just got in the new 5 x 10"dd coil, I'll start by saying this is my machine and may vary differently then some other machines out their, its a F70 / 4 years old in great condition with full charge showing on the batteries, regardless of what others have found to be true or not this is how my machine tested with the STANDARD 10" Elliptical vs the 5X10"DD Coils,Sorry no videos and now that all the disclaimers have been made lets get down to the facts...

Air tested in a non metal environment with size of coins being more important the then composition
The following coins were used, Clads- Penny, nickle, dime, quarter, and a 90% Silver Half Franklin Dollar.
Measurements stopped at the moment they started to fade off( good clear readable signal)
Display of composition was as follows
Penny 60-61
Nickel 30-32
Dime 70-72
Quarter 82-83
Silver Half 89-90

Starting off after a reset and nothing else changed( disc15, DE, Sen 60, Thresh -3, 3 tone)
3 tone stayed the same throughout
Standard Elliptical Coil:
Penny and Nickel read 3.5"
Dime 3"
Quarter 4"
Half 4.5"
This will be the standard with only the sensitivity to be changed...
Measurements from above can be reached with the sensitivity from 55-79

Changing only the Sen to 80 to 99 added 1" per coin.

Dropping the Sen to less then 50 subtracted 1 to 1.5" per coin

Now the DD 5x10" coil @ Sen 55-79 added 1"(p/n 4.5",d4",q5",and half 5.5")
setting sen to 80-99 added 2" (p,n,d 6-6.5",q7",and half 7.5")
-----------
Now reset back to default and change thresh to -1 instead of -3 added 1" on Standard coil and 2" on dd coil
to the standard chart above,

so the dd coil here with -1 thresh vs -3 thresh with the sen 55-79 instead of 80+sen
reads the same..... in other words

55-79 sen and -1 thresh is the same as 80-99 sen and -3 thresh

-----------
reset back to default and lets go with SL mode in stead of DE and -1 thresh with standard coil
p.n.d was @ 7", q@8" and half @ 9"

I did see a drop in depth when the discrimination was set at max 65 1-2"

Also i did not see any difference in measurement on disc 1 vs AT(all metal) in SL,sen60,-3 thresh.

I'm sure we can adjust thresh and sen and disc and all come up with different and maybe more depths but
this is where i got to ....with it being comfortable on the user.

so to wrap it up....
low disc 1 = more depth
high sen also more depth but more noise @ 55 sen you will loose 1" of depth over 80+sen
negative thresh also less depth the further you go in to the negative.
THE DD COIL added 2" of clear, focused, steady, readable depth
it will pic up to 4" deeper then the standard coil however the numbers on lets say a quarter bounced
from 32 to 90 and all in between. So the usable gain would be 2", its said to be a little quieter in high iron sights
but that wont be tested until tomorrow.

So the best comfortable setting and good depth on this machine would be
Disc 1
SL
sen 55
thresh -1
that would read clear steady signals
Penny / Nickel / Dime 7"
Quarter 8"
and Half @ 9"
THE ADDITION OF THE DD COIL WOULD BE ???
Penny / Nickel / Dime 8.5-9"
Quarter 9.5-10"
and the half @ 10.5-11"
IN AIR..... their are so many variables and setting options I'm sure it will be less in some cases
and more in others....

So is the 5x10dd coil worth the $160 to get 2 more inches ( and undetermined noise reduction in high iron)
guess it depends on how your coins settle in your area, ill do some testing in my hunted out yard and see if
their are any coins 2" deeper....I'm guessing not here as my place only goes back to the 40's and most coins are
at 5" but its nice to know i can now see P,N,D at 8-9" for those places that go back into the mid to late 1800's, or if you have read
the f70 help post where ill be going back into the iron / coal slag field will this coil be able to break thru that crap:rant::rage:, thus being another reason for the purchase of this 1 coil.

hopefully this helps as I'm still trying to make sense of it all, due to being up so late:stars::rofl:
