F70/75 coils?

basstrackerman

Well-known member
Hi i just picked up a nice f70. Does anyone use sef 10x12 or ultimate 13" coils on the f70/75?? Or is the 11" DD the go to coil? On my other machines aftermarket coils work a little better on some and alot better on others. I was just curious. Thanks

Like most situations when switching coils, your soil conditions might affect results.
I have read a ton about hunters using all types of coils on the F70/F75 platform and the consensus seems to be the factory 11" DD coil works very well in most soils with pretty accurate ID's and impressive depth.
In my fantastic soil, (I usually GB in the 40's and 50's...at the highest the low 60's with usually one bar on the dirt meter if that), all my coils go deep and the large 11"DD can easily reach 10-12" with decent ID's and I have even reached the 14-15" area with a bit jumpy info but still with info showing on the screen.

I assume you know that the F70 might tone on really deep objects but might not show anything happening on the screen at all.
Listening to the tones are very important when using this one more than screen info, sometimes, but that is a pretty good rule to go by when using most of the tools and brands we have available to us.
There is a huge amount of info available on this forum if you search, Rocket Tom's info on his extreme in depth testing and insights on the F70//F75/T2 platforms can be helpful and eye opening.

On some of the older top end F series units I have read that the NEL coils seemed to handle semi better, but the newer units seem to have better shielding and emi is not much of a problem for most new owners like it used to be.

Here is some pretty good scientific testing done in this post on some after market coils.
For him under his testing conditions in his soil, after market coils did not make much of a difference on the F75, but on his F70 did seem to gain an extra inch in the depth department.

Is it worth spending over $200 to maybe gain one inch, again that depends on the hunter, the type of sites they tend to hunt and their mind set.
For me it wouldn't.
I am reaching depths that are fine for me, unfamiliar for the most part and am finding and digging great targets so for now I am quite satisfied.
Another hunter in other areas of the country with different site types might see the value in even one extra inch.

Interesting...Since I've been GBing lately and paying attention, I almost always get a 70-78 on the GB up here on the dirt, and 90 on the sand...I use the 11"dd exclusively with pleasant results...now, I'm not out hunting deep old silver mind you...so I run what would be considered very soft settings, but am still impressed with the depth of some of the finds..congrats on that F70 score..
Mud.

...and then there's me, Mister "IronDirt" McGinty. I rarely see GB#s lower than 85 and less than 2-3 bars on the Fe scale.
I have the stock 10" elliptical, the 5"x10" DD and the 4"x6" 'football. And they all have their place.

The stock coil is great for when Iron and mineralization is lower. IDs and reads depth very accurately

The 5x10 is my "go to" coil for most places. Not quite as accurate on depth like the stock coil, but runs "quieter" in the local soils.

The 4x6 "football" is my scalpel for trashy areas and rootbeds. It will still squawk a bit if tuned too hot, but very good for tight areas.

I have the 5x10DD mounted on a 26" lower shaft, a la mudpuppy's "super sweeper", and the 4x6 on the stock shaft when "fence-pickin"

Lately I've been busy with other things, waiting for the local parks and such to replenish. I'll prolly go out on my next set of days off and see how that plan worked.
