F70 And Tones

How accurate are the tones at Depth on the F70 on coin size targets when the VID drops out and you have to go by tones? Does it read the coin size targets as iron?

The TID degrades with depth of course, as does the strength of the tone...there usually is a very short "peep" that stops a fellow to hover and rescan. I dont remember a coin going to iron, but with a disc set at 1-15, I may not be an accurate answer. What really is sort of interesting is stacks of multidenominational coins, that signal can be just about anywhere in the spectrum from nickle to half. Tight stacks are different than slanted stacks or tight spills..depending on conditions, the only way to know for sure is to dig, and the only digging i'm doing with great regularity at depth is on sand, which really teaches a fellow a lot about what the machine is saying. Over all, I would say the tone signal on coins stays fairly pure to the end of the capabilities of the machine.
disc 1-15, thresh -3, sens 60-70, tones DP, DE mode.
There are enough settings on this machine for you to find one you like on the dry, one for the beach, etc..but I tend to stay within these parameters I'm comfortable with, after a year of fooling around, it would be nice to get with some others in the field that have F70's and compare real world results. Hope this helps!

I thought the tones IF they are fairly accurate with decent depth then wouldn't have to look at display so often.I was more concerned about the tones being accurate with depth and Hoping it wouldn't see deep coins as iron.I no nothing is perfect.

Yeah, I dont hardly look at the display at all anymore...in fact, a guy can hunt at night without a flashlight on the beach, and just go by tones.
I got a 3 q stack this am that pounded in the high quarter tone, TID said 87 when a single q is 84 'bout 3"
gotta 3 penny stack on top of a nickle yesterday...dont remember looking before probing...I'm trying to get the speed of recovery down to under 10 seconds from first hit, to pouch...getting close to that.

RonK there is only one way to do it. You have to go out and detect and with the experience you will get the sounds down.
Now remember Mud uses DP tones. My Safari had DP tones and it took much practice to get tones down to where I didn't have to be watching the meter so much. I use 3H tones on the F70. I don't look at the meter until the mid tone or the high coin tone comes in, the same thing as Mud does. I look at the meter and decide if I should dig? Sometimes I am down on one knee without looking at the meter, knowing it is a good target. Mud is right about the stack of coins. Many times I have had quarters stacked up and the meter reading is all over the place. But if you will look the 82 reading is in there with the high tones. So I always dig those guys.Today I had a penny, nickel and quarter stacked up and all I got was the nickel 30-31 reading.. When I popped them out the penny came out first and the nickel and quarter came out together. Also had 3 quarters almost side by side and the F70 seemed confused? It gave a high tone but 79-87 reading. I don't get many 86-87 reading so had to dig to see what it was.
I have read that it takes 100 hours to get to know your detector. I think that is way off in real life. I think it takes many hundreds of hours to get to know and trust you machine. The F70 is a great machine and if you will put in the time it will produce many great finds for you.
