F70 best setting to go deep

RifRaf

New member
I have the F70 and for some reason I do not find it goes very deep, is this something I am missing with this machine? Also I was wondering is it normal that when you bump the coil even in weedy area that the detector deeps? If anyone can help with my question I would be grateful.

What coil/coils do you have?
What area of your country/world do you live in, what are your average GB numbers and dirt bar readings?
How deep are you actually getting and are you talking about depth on targets with only solid stable ID's or what?
What settings have you tried so far?

No the coil shouldn't set off the detector when you bump into something so if it does whatever problems you are having could be bad coil related.

Until you learn the detector maybe a good starting point would be go back to the factory preset mode, then grow from there. If the coil stops beeping after you are in that mode you know the coil is ok if it continues to beep all the time then there's a good chance your coil is defective.

It is not my coil as I have tried another coil with same affect. I use the 11 inch dd coils but when I bump against a thicker weed it can make my machine beep. I have had the machine for two years and it has always been this way. I have several machines that I use but just started using my F70 more this year and starting to notice that I am not getting very deep. If I run single tone I get maybe six inched on a dime with sen turned up 85 and threshold -2 and disc set at 8. I live in Canada and the soil can be hard as concrete at times when it is dry. currently the soil is wet and should have better conductivity.

Mineralization readings are what I am after, not how hard the dirt is.
In great soil with that coil and those settings I got way further up to 10" and beyond on targets but most of them were iron or other trash.
In the mineralized soil I hunt in now, high 70's to low 80's on the GB numbers and up to 3 bars on the dirt meter with lots of iron mixed into my soil, I have gotten a bit deeper up to the 7-8" level on a couple of targets but 98% of my deepest good targets usually hang about 5-6" deep around here which I can hit easily with your settings and any F70 coil.
98% of my deepest good targets were all at about that same 5-6" depth level wherever I hunted in good soil or bad so for me and many others that is normal.
Not all targets hang out there...I have dug a few coins deeper up to the 9" area or so but most of the time they are not that deep.
You actually might be able to get to deeper levels than that 6" dime but maybe you haven't rolled your coil over any so far.
Do you have a coin garden where you are testing for depth on known depth levels?

In lower Michigan the soil is pretty good, in upper Michigan you can get more mineralization and in the UP there is a ton of iron.
I don't know where in Canada you are or have any clue on your kind of soil so this might be normal for you, also.
Without more info I can only guess.

How deep are you getting with your other detectors and what kind are they?

Again, bumping that coil and getting a signal is not normal...was this purchased new or used?

Try a factory reset and start fresh then see what happens.
A call to Fisher to pick some brains won't cost much and I would do that before I sent it in which being in Canada will not be real cheap on the shipping charges.

I hail from Canada too. Soil mineralization is mostly 2-3 bars out of 4 on my F5 and I get better than 6 inches on a silver dime especially with the 11 inch DD in 2 tone mode, no disc. Try all metal to see if you get anything better. In wet soil, you should go deeper than I can.

I have pulled items down to 9 inches pennies
and some iron targets that read 12 inches and were right at that depth

Try all metal mode and SL on the speed and slow your swing and I think you will have some success

Pretty much just use all metal now you have to pay attention to your screen but it works better for me
