Do me a favor, put your machine in all metal and see if your menu go's from threshold back up to program, not to tones and then notch. I called Fisher and they said send it in. Got a call from a tech and he said that's the way it is suppose to work and that my machine checks out OK? I feel stupid but seems like they could have explained this when I called ?. I was relic hunting going back and fourth from all metal to discrimination when I noticed I could not change my tones. Well if this is true it's a lesson learned for me.

Hey Camp..I just gave it a go..and what you heard from Fisher is correct...

In AT, you can only go as far on the menu as thresh...tones and notch are not active..it sort of makes sense once you think about it...in AT, you have no disc, every thing sounds the same, a nail or penny or silver dollar all sound the same... and no notch would be needed since the idea is to be hunting in "All Metal" mode...Since I love running in DP tones, I just set the disc at 1 so I have tones and notch if I want and can still hear most all metals except for the ones that read 1 hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. Well that lesson only cost about 11 bucks for shipping but my F70 is getting a good check up and it is to hot to hunt now that I'm home here in the valley. That thing got a good work out for 3 weeks straight when I was up in the cool country.
thanks again Mud

Yup, mine is also the same. I noticed the short menu shortly after I started using the F70. I would do my ground balance in at mode and hunt in disc. mode. While being very new to the F70 I had to figure out where the false signals were coming from. When I would hear a tone that seemed a little fuzzy or chirpy I would switch to AT mode or all medal as you call it. Some signals associated with the false signal were assigned a VDI number in AT mode if they were strong enough. This was the link to the actual medal type the falsing was originating from. I rarely switch back to all medal anymore except to ground balance since I learned to compare the confidence meter and VDI numbers together into the mix . I learn something new every time I go hunting with this great detector. I am just starting to get a handle on the learning curve and am looking forward to learning more.---F70 rules:please:
