F75 LTD Best Coil for Gold Nuggett Hunting???

St Bernard

New member
I will soon have a new F75 LTD Special Edition Black detector coming in February. What will be the BEST coil for hunting all types of gold including nuggets. I do not mind buying extra coils for this. I will be able to get into dry creek and stream beds here in Northern California Sierra Foothills. I would like to have the best coil that would give me the best detecting for gold. I know there is probably not a coil that is designed for that purpose only. I also understand this detector is not specifically designed for gold detecting. I will appreciate any and all suggestions for a good coil for prospecting. Thanks

WoW! I'm thinking that a lot of Gold Nuggets are very small and are often times passed over by general purpose detectors, even higher end models.
May I ask why you didn't pursue a detector made specifically for the purpose of 'Prospecting' ?

I'm sure my big brother will be along in a bit and he has done a fair amount of air testing with several of the F75's and with a lot of different coils and he always tries to include small Gold in his test (Jewelry, not gold nuggets). He should be able to give you some results on which coils seemed to respond better to small Gold.

Mark.

This is about the best I could do without some retesting.

At the time I did this testing I was looking for the best score for a gold finder coil. The clear winner was the 6.5" elliptical concentric coil, and the next runner up would be the 5"DD. I now have a third small coil that I haven't tested on my gold jewelry which is the NEL snake.

Also keep in mind I was doing all the testing in disc mode, if I was to do the same testing over in all metal all the coils may have improved on their score.

Hope this helps,

Thanks for the info. That is a great help. I will look into the 6.5 elliptical concentric coil. Looking at Fisher is it the ( FISHER 6.5 ELLIPTICAL COIL)?? Thanks again

Yes! the 6.5" elliptical is a Fisher coil.
By the way "WV62" is my big brother, and appears in my avatar LOL!

The one picture is the 6.5" compared to the 11" DD.

Thanks a lot that solved that problem. I had that on the buy list for next month. What about the NEL Tornado 12 X 13 coil for using in a lot of open areas and in wooded areas or is the 11" that comes with the F75 LTD Ok for this??
You two solved all my questions thanks again

Never tried the NEL Tornado and I can see where you are going with better ground coverage with a bigger coil. I can say generally speaking when it comes to small gold bigger is not better. But you may think about hunting in steps, like first go through with a big coil and see if you can get all the big gold out and then go back with a little smaller coil and see if there is anything left.

With a bigger coil you will get a little better depth but you will lose some sensitivity to the small targets.

Thanks Ron in WV and your brother also all the tips are greatly appreciated. The Tornado will be mainly for going over large areas not specifically for gold. Thanks again
