Well-known member
Well I guys I DID IT. I bought me a F75LTD used but put back in the box, this thing is spotless!! I hope I didnt pay to much.750 out the door with both coils and a cover for the 11 in. dd. I took it home started it up,played with a few settings, whent into my backyard, that i have pounded to death with my F4,and bang!! First target i dug was a 1963 clad penny, second target 1955 wheat, haha. I think I am gonna love this!!!! What would be a good all around set up to start with, I be honest I have no idea what my settings are right now, will start reading the manual and post back with some accurate settings.

Until you get a decent feel for the LTD, I suggest running it a little towards the tame side, something like disc. 6-10, sen. of 75 and tones of your choice. Beyond that, it comes down to how much of what the detector is telling you that you can comfortably handle. I use bp all the time and about three setups off that, depending on emi. If no emi, 0 disc. sen. 90 and higher and for coin hunting, 3h and 4h tones. If emi becomes a problem, disc. 6 and sen. as high as possible...usually 60-75 or so. For severe em1 I drop the sen. down to 29, which puts it in a low gain mode, and either 0 or 6 disc. Hope this helps a little. HH jim tn

Thanx alot jm tn I was hoping you would chime in I have read alot of your posts on the f75ltd. I will stay close to the factory settings for now.Sens 60,disc.10,tones 3,de mode.

ive been using 8-10 discrim (i dont know why mine is more stable there than if I run the disc say at 2:geek: I usually run my sens at 80 and take it downward if it starts falsing or is unstable. Getting into the 90's can increase the noise, but then again also the detail- I get in the 90's for some final passes of an area. Ive run the sens in the 30's in high interference areas and still get coins. It does take a while to get used to. I think the trickiest thing is delineating the nickles from the pull tabs, but I think that s common with a lot of machines. I use three tones, but be sure to check your numbers on a solid sounding mid tone, Ive had a lot of I heads hit on that with ids in the high 50's or low 60's. Getting used to the difference between memorial cents and dimes is tricky, all I can say is the dimes will lock better and more consistently where the memorials might be all over in there. Quarters are usually for me higher than 80, at usually 82 or 83. Silver will kick up into the 90's and lock. Pull tabs may get in the 90's but bounce between there and much lower numbers- they will also squeal more, although a good coin can squeals also if not too deep. zinc can be notched but will slip in there if right on the surface. Ive checked a number of 22 and they are most times foil (although I dont know if gold ring diggers will argue, ) Some parks Im getting a lot of 22's and I know there isnt that many gold rings Im walking all over. Give it time, Ive been using mine since May 3 or 4 times a week and know Im still learning about it. It can go deep. Good luck, CO

osgood, your findings are pretty much the same as mine. Disc. higher then 5/6 does run a little quieter. I guess I have gotten used to the little tic's and clicks that one gets with 0 disc. and the little added depth. I like finding nickels and the F 75/LTD is quite good at id'ing them. Nickels down to about 4" if laying almost flat will usually lock on 30 pretty good. If slightly slanted or on edge, then they will bounce some. Usually, though, the vid numbers are pretty tight...say 29-31, + or - a number. Deeper nickels do tend to be a little more bouncy and if on edge, even more so. A general rule of thumb I use after getting a good pin point is if I see a 30 in the bouncy number range, I dig it. This is not to imply that I don't dig some tabs, but on deeper targets, I dig more nickels then trash. Unless, of course, it is a pretty deep tab, which will frequently sound good and read in the silver range. In the bp mode, deeper nickels will often also read a couple of numbers higher and shallower war nickels (part silver) will often read 30-32. My take on nickels, anyway. HH jim tn

A disc setting of 5 or less, or 21 or higher, puts the detector into an extra sensitivity mode. A disc between 6-20 will provide a lessened sensitivity mode, but a more stable/quite machine.

Brian, yes I wrote for instance a disc of say twenty nine and above seemed noisier for instance than like a disc of 7-10, somehow the number nine got read as a smiley face. Yes Ill have the disc at for instance twenty nine and I might be hearing some irritating noises, and right while Im lowering the disc towards nine or ten you can hear the irritation noises disappear. I dont know if at that point its running any less sensitive though, you would think in a park the more disc the quieter it would be. I dont get that. Yes nickles do lock on nicely, but even some tabs, like last night I had a perfect lock and was certain a nickle and guess what, a tab.- more often than not though a good lock on a nickle produces just that. At least the knock of the nickle seems more in your face and a longer presence side to side so to speak. CO

Rick I agree with the others......one thing I did was this........I tried all kinds of settings and a lot of them work fine......You can find whats best for you.....just play with it hh......Dan
PS I always run BP........It has been so hot here in GA. I've given my LTD a rest LOL

Hey Rick....I am a relative newbie to the LTD myself but here's how my progression went. The dealer I bought it from in January of this year (who uses the LTD exclusively himself) told me to start with a disc of 21 and sensitivity at 50 in the BP mode, which I did for several weeks just trying to learn her language. As time passed I kept sneakin' the disc down and the sensitivity up. I now have 159 hours on the machine and I am comfortable running the disc at 0 at most of my sites, I use the BP mode all the time and set the sensitivity to my noise comfort level for that particular hunt.
I have been completely happy with my move to the Fisher F75 LTD and will never look back, my finds thus far this year are fewer in number than previous years but only because I'm going back over all the old sites I hunted for four years with my DFX. My silver count is higher than ever and I have found several "firsts" this year including a walking liberty half and a V nickle. One of the biggest surprises has been the number of coins I have found on edge the I must have missed before. If you haven't done so yet, stick a coin in the ground on edge and learn the sound she makes, also notice the pinpoint pattern on a coin on edge. The pinpoint will sound off to the left of the coin and sound off to the right of the coin.......dig the middle!!

Good luck!

Dave

Thanx guys for all this great info...It will take me some time to get it to sink in,but am confident i will love this machine!!! Oh boxofchocolates iys been in the 90's here in michigan for the longest i can remember, you good ol boys from the south should be used to it..LOL

Heat index is triple digits down here.......I work 10 hour days on a construction project but greatfull to have a job in this economy.....looking forward to fall ....hh.......Dan

rick, our heat index has been triple digits for so long down here that even us "good old southern boys" aren't used to it. I've still been out swinging every day, but from 6 a to about 9 a...that is all I can handle. Heading up to Mn again shortly and note where we are going their temps. for the next few days are in the upper 60's to low 70's and they have been having some rain. We are currently so dry that digging is actually pretty easy once you work through the top couple of inches of ground. Underneath the roots the ground is so dry in just crumbles and is pretty easy to dig in. Luckily I've got some spots that brown spots aren't a problem. I am looking forward, though, to digging in some damp ground for a change. EVERYBODY BE CAREFUL IN THE HEAT! HH jim tn

I hear you jim ,am a little carfull where i dig cause its so dry i dont want to look bad,if you know what i mean. I try very hard to make sure nobody knows i have been there'
Hope to get out tomorrow, I was just kidding you about the heat down south, I know its hotter there, with the heat index and all....hh...rick
