F75 LTD disc. question

ngrelic

New member
I used the LTD at an old home site, now in a small park, the other day. Disc @ 25, sens @ 80, bp, 3H tones. I heard alot of iron grunts. Is this normal or should the iron tones have been nulled out with that disc setting?

Thanks,
Barry

My f70 was doing that Sunday afternoon, but we had some fierce lightening going on, I dont know if that had anything to do with it, but all of a sudden, Iron notched itself back in, then pulltabs, it was all over the place! I stopped and fooled around and try to make it behave by pushing all sorts of buttons, but nothing seemed to work. Monday morn I went out and did a "factory reset" and managed to get it doing what it was supposed to do...then found a monster ring, (dont know what it is yet, think its junk, but its really heavy and came out silver, TID 81 like maybe chrome plated) and found a 925 little silver one in the afternoon. TID 72
I think I'll use that Factory reset to zero everything out more often..takes a fellow back to "base" and you can modify from there...

Check to make sure you have Iron completely notched out. I had the same problem recently and upon looking really closely, discovered that the iron was only half notched out.

Looked sorta like this:

IRON

Thanks for the advice mudpuppy and wharghoul, I'll check the notch setting and if needed do a factory reset this evening. No Bart, nothing strange about the iron but maybe something strange about my set up.

Thanks,
Barry

Thanks again guys. It was the notch set incorrectly just as you said. I've been relic hunting only with this machine since i got it in December, using motion all metal. Seems to be a good relic machine so far. Must admit that I'm not much of a coin hunter after 33 years of relic hunting.

Why are you "NOTCHING" iron ? Iron is the first setting in DISC just increase the DISC setting to 15 and go no NOTCHING required.

Don't totally understand the relationship between notch and disc. I had disc set on 25 but only the back half of "IRON" was slashed. I zeroed the disc, went into notch and took it to 1 (as low as it would go), went back to disc and increased to 25 and no more iron grunts. Someone with more experience on the F75 may be able to explain this better, but it worked. Quite a bit different than just increasing the iron mask on my Explorer.

Yep, I usually run my DISC at 15 when Im hunting coins and jewelry, but since I was in a field of trash, I thought Id run disc up to 55 or so, and it worked great finding pennies, dimes and Q's...but not hearing the nickles sort of bothered me, so I fooled with the notch, and notched them back in which was sort of cool...still have lots to learn and understand, like what you said ngrelic, like whats the relationship between THRESH, and SENS? What gives a fellow greater depth, and still allows smooth running besides AT? Still attempting to learn the mysterys of this machine, yet keep it simple enough to not have to write everything down...
All the local schools are on Spring Break this week, so its definitely the time to hunt 'em...

Out of about 80% ignorance... when you disc out past iron and then notch out iron haven't you brought iron back in?? Like two negatives making a positive rather than a double negative for emphasis?

I just didn't hear anyone mention this and thought I'd ask.

Tom,

You are correct. My earlier post suggested that the Iron wasn't completely notched out. What I should have said was that a segment of the Iron was mistakenly 'Notched In". It is possible to disc. out all the way up to 15 and higher, but still have Iron 1-7 notched in. What makes matters worse is that it's really hard to see the little notch lines on the readout.

I had the same situation happen to me...I was cherry picking coins from a site with my disc. all the way up to 55 and I was still hearing iron grunts. For the longest time I thought that the iron was bleeding through and I was quite disgusted with the machine's inability to disc. out all the iron. I then discovered that I had somehow 'Notched In' Iron 1-7 ( IRON )
. When I went back and notched it back out the iron grunts completely disappeared and I was happily back to cherry picking, once again delighted with my F75 ltd.

Hope that cleared it up a bit.

Buy going to 1 you did totally nothing thats the default factory setting, with notch at 1 you are not notching anything, just adjust the Disc up 10, 15 25 what ever it will null them out, If the notch is set higher then the Disc it will null (reject) it out if it lower then the DISC it will accept it. Very simple. If you do more the 1 notch you might get a little confused, Just factory re-set and start over
