F75 LTD Display Question

shooter

Member
Noticing the last couple of time I used my F75 with the 5 inch coil if I don't have a signal my screen is blank, if I make an ADJ. I get a display or go over a target she lights up no matter what the setting she's not noisy or erratic at all, even at 99 SEN and 0 Disc. or maybe its just me . It was like that at 4 different sites, seemed to do it after I worked a fresh water lake but can't pinpoint it to that. any ideas or am I just looking at nothing?

Shooter this is not normal, I know things change a little when going from the big coil to the smaller one but not blank screen. I would say you drowned another coil, seems I recall you were thinking you did that to the 11"dd coil just after you got your F75ltd and had to send it back for repairs.

I think I would give FT a call and if you know somebody around there that has a little 5" coil you could compare to yours and see if it is a coil problem. My screen is not blank on mine with any of the 3 coils I have.

Check the connection on coil at Meter head... It has been a past problem of not getting the connection tight enough... It feels tight sometimes, but it isn't seated or all the way pushed in ..

YES Mine is tight you must get the plug all the way in.

Thanks for the info going to switch to the 11" and s3ee what that does. But it was the 11" that went after I used it in water, maybe these F75 coils are a bummer , never had any problems with my 555-D, 1265x or 1270 in the water, going to call Felix, but this is the 4th time I'm sending this back, tried of paying $31.00 each time (insuranced). I'll let you know.

OK, made sure the connection was secure and tight, no difference so I changed the coil to my 11" and it didn't happen the display was there and it was chirping at BP 99. adj'ed it and swept the backyard for about 10 minutes all seemed fine so went back to the 5" and was holding up horiz. no display (can't remember if the is normal) and did a factory reset an it seems to be working ok , I'll have to keep an eye on it or I might give felix a call and see what he thinks.

Send it in ............ Is the 5" coil the one the that came with the detector ???????????

Yup got both coils 11" & 5" Ok think I'll give Felix a call

I have a SE it does the exact same thing.I thought it was designed that way to conserve batteries. It seems to work great .Only complaint I have is with depth reading, A coin ,any coin, that reads 4 inches is usually just below surface. The reading for a dime at about 4 " is 8 " .Does your machine do this also ? Maybe some connection between the two conditions!

With the double d coil 11: you have to get the center over the target for a closer actual depth reading.... The 5" coil may be a little off because it is 5" coil and calibration isn't exact.
That being said....... I had a coil on one F75 that was off on depth reading...no matter what I did .. On mine everything was 5" reading on the meter....... A new coil seemed to fix it.
Most coins are not flat in the ground either..this will make a difference on depth readings.

Didn't take notice of that but I'm going to bury some coins and check it out.

good point Elton but the disappearing display bothers me, switched the coils back and forth and it hasn't done it again but is the machine working correctly? you are correct position of the coin, soil density ground moisture, coil height, operator error all go in with target depth, but 4" and the coin is at 8"is kind of a bummer, in that case how many good find could someone pass up because they stopped digging at 6 or 7' inches When we use the older TR machines in the 70 and early 80's ( Fisher 555-D type) and we had no pinpointers you would lose a target thru the depth of a deep dug out hole the target just seemed to disappear fill the hole in and it might come back. used to have plenty of them back then but cut them down using REVERSE DISC. I've had depth ID's up to 15-16"s and found a 22 cal shell at about 8" small item screw up the depth meter also.

With my F75Ltd I haven't done much coin hunting with it, but with the 5" coil coins are reading deeper than actual, can't say how much but if it says 5" I would guess I will find it on the way down at 3" to 4". Now for other items like that 22 case the depth reading is going to be reading way deeper than actual and I think most of us expect that.
I have been using the Pro Pinpointer to aid in the depth. First I pinpoint with the detector and then try to get the Pro pinpointer to pick it up from the surface, if it hits it I know it is within a couple of inches. For the most part I don't even use the detector for depth.

Back on your blank screen, you may have not had your wire connection real good which was suggested, also being around water you may have got a little dab of water around the connection point at the control box end. I have also wondered about wet hands around the toggle switch.

Send it in shooter ................ If you can't believe what your detector is telling you,........you always feel your missing something..

It's a must that you know for you it's the right equipment, and it is working 100 %.

I can say for sure.Your screen should be on the face at all times......... If the processor isn't working properly in that segment of operation chances are it's off elsewhere Sir..

Depth readings are a at best a close as possible calculation depending on many variables.. Size of target, Items close to detected target, angle of target, coil location over target...etc. etc..

WV have you ever tried the super tune for the pro-pointer works pretty good and gives a little more depth.

I totally agree Elton its going in, now have to see if Felix can give me a call tag, this just came back about a month and 1/2 . with Ins its31.00 this is the fourth time it's going back. Have to go back to my 1270 or 1265 which is ok with me.

I agree with u ron wv, I hardly ever look at the depth display,I go with the signal strength and sound, then slowly lift my coil off the ground,if i get to more then 6 in,or so i normally wouldnt dig.I know it normally wont hit a dime at 12 in,I only coin hunt.So I pretty much dig for coin signals and have a good idea if its a coin or larger object. The pro pointer also helps me determine this I to will put it to the ground and see how close to the surface the target is,if it doesnt detect the obgect I will dig about a 4 in plug and try again. If I get down to 6 in. and the pro pointer says its still there then I will do the same with the pro pointer as i do with the coil slowly raise it up,if it still sounds off and am holding it say 3-4 inches from the bottom of the hole it more than likely is not a coin.Shooter my screen dispaly goes blank over clean ground and only shows batt. strength and a small black box next to my last setting adjustment. Are you seeing this or is your screen completely blank?? I to will fine tune my pro pointer, but beware cause then it will pick up objects further up the shaft as opposed to directly at or near the point, wich can be confusing sometimes if an object or trash is near the sides of the hole you dug.JMHO....hh rick in mi.

Yea rick the screen is totally blank even when lifted Horiz. And know the A/M's is running super erratic again and I sent it 2 times for that getting tired of paying the shipping was to long a go i sent it in.and this is with the 11" coil.

Dang shooter, I think you should have a nice long talk with FT about replacing your detector with a new one or give you your money back. With several trips back for repairs there comes a time when enough is enough.

I hope they make it right for you,

Ron in WV

that just might be a good idea, I'm going to try that but I don't think Felix will do it but I'm going that way first.
