F75 Ltd Settings

If you are new to the F75, start out in the factory pre-set modes. These modes a just a little bit tamer, (hence quieter) but will still hit most of the coins and jewelry you go over. If you are hunting in a lot of trash, I would go to the bp (boost) mode as that mode allows you to swing slower. I do like 3 and 4h tones for old coin hunting, but tones really are a matter of preference. God luck! HH jim tn

I hardly ever hunt both coins and jewelry at the same time, unless I am just surface hunting. So in that case I run the 11"DD about 3" to 5" off the ground and the disc just below nickels, sensitive below the noise. I also run the GB about 3 points higher than the auto GB.

The idea being to not detect the junk items down in the ground say more than 3 or more inches.

Now if I am hunting older coins I forget the jewelry, and set the disc at max and run the Bp processor most of the time. Keep in mind your F75Ltd does not lose depth with higher disc settings.

When I just hunt jewelry I use the little 3x6 elliptical coil in JE mode, it is for sure more sensitive to the smaller gold than the 11"dd and the 5"dd coil. But you will still get more coins than jewelry and more junk than either.

Good luck,

Ron in WV

Do you like to sweep the coil fast or not so fast? ... or my addendum to jim tn's reply. (If you have followed jim tn's posts at all then you know that he has a lot of quality recoveries.)

The F75 LTD, in most of the discrimination modes, likes a fairly fast coil sweep speed. Due to elbow issues, even as well balanced as the F75 LTD is, I like a relaxed sweep speed. I run boost mode nearly all the time (bP mode). bP likes a slower sweep that most of the other modes. In cache mode (CL) it likes an even slower sweep, but bP is right in my comfort range. bP also lets you raise the coil a bit over vegetation and still get remarkable depth on targets in the ground. I start in the factory defaults then switch to bP, set the sensitivity to run quiet, set discrimination to minimum of the range of targets I want to hunt for and hunt. Choose your preference of tones. Try them all out and see what sounds like it is giving you the information you want.

Now if you like to sweep fast ... dE or JE mostly and depending on conditions maybe PF.
Cheers,

A lot depends on the site. Minerals, trash and EMI are your enemies. The other day I was hunting a site that had a lot of interference. I was running default sensitivity80 disc at 4. Lots of deep nails also. I found a deep coin reading 9 inches on the depth meter and began dropping the sensitivity and checking target strength. I got all the way down to 20 before The target strength strength changed ANY. I raised the sensitivity back to 40 and found a lot of deep coins with a nice quiet detector. Point I'm making is don't be afraid to drop the sensitivity to fit the situation. Sensitivity is the most misadjusted control. The idea that if you have to run it wide open in boost mode will cause you a lot of misery.

Now i start with default, sens 20, disc at 4, tones at 3. Find an area with no targets. Ground balance then start raising the sensitivity untill I get chatter. This will be the ground talking .Then back it down to what I can live with, ground balance again and hunt.

Good info, I have been getting frustrated as a new user and am close to giving up with the SE and going back to my MXT. Maybe I will try it again.

John, I have said this before and got a lot grief over it but here goes again.

Nobody wants to talk about the one tone setting, but if you want to really settle that SE down, try 1 or 1F tone setting. I really like the sound of a high tone silver coin when it is not mask by a lot of junk.

So for me if I get in a nice clean area with some good coins I may run some tones, but for the most part I just run 1F because the areas I hunt are trashy. I hunted in these areas for a couple of years thinking 3 tones was the way to go, then I got hold of a factory guy at FT and he got me on to the 1 tone. He was telling me that with 3 tones the machine in the trash will take 1 single response and in some cases it will try to give you all the tones on a single response. I tested this in one of my hunting areas and with 3 tones on I couldn't hardly move forward at all, then I switched to one tone and things got a lot better. Now I know this sounds made up but within maybe 40 or so feet I had a silver dime with the SE. Last year I pulled 11 total silver coins out of that area all with 1 tone.

The other thing is disc settings, your SE will not loose depth even at max setting, so if you wanted to just coin hunt you can run it as high as you want.

Good Luck,

Ron in WV

Ron ran your setting of 1 today and pulled a morgan large cent. worked a lot quieter. Thanks PS Gave the coin to the owner of property Don Tyler Merrimack,NH

don,

Congrats on the large cent, were you able to get the date off it? Maybe the owner will let take picture and you can show it to all with the details.

I have been hunting since the mid 70's and I only got one large cent 1818, also my oldest coin to date.

Glad it worked for you, keep it up.

Hi Ron Will take picture after it soaks in oil. I have found a few along with colonial half cents in the last couple of years here in New Hampshire. F75se such a nice machine and light, easy to make adjustments. Don

Hi Arnie, I found a good setting ro really pull the coins out of the local parks. I use a 11' inch coil and hit the trashy spots I can. You may want to use head phones and dig all repeatable good signals that register as a coin. My settings are:

Sensitivty - 30 or less due to emi.
Discrimination - 4 in high gain
Tones - 3
Mode - je

You will get the feel for this setup quickly and know when your in bottlecap and pulltab range. It really hits hard on foil, and very small pieces of metal. Be prepared to dig signals 11 inches and the size of a ear ring back.

Average hunt minus the trash. Go slow with the swing and try to clear trash as you go for a better signal.

Pretty sure je processor mode is 100% high gain, no matter the disc setting.

Absolutely, run in high gain if you can get it quieted down enough.
