As I've been reading here on the forums the best setting have come into question ....it seems that a lot of chatter can result from to high sensitifity',electrical interferances even change in my pocket with the housing to close....of course I'm still experimenting this is my first time using any fisher detector....at one site I was running 4 sens.disc.at 7 in bp mode some have spoke of secret settings that are low and with more power or sensitivity....what are your best settings are you also experimenting like I'm doing any thoughts and info sharing would be appreciated....hh...God bless......Dan..........also I would like to note here with the 4...7 settings in bp I was at an old and still active school play ground site...it has been hit since the 70s.....I got solid reading on both swings 4-6 inches found 1942 silver quarter ...1935 buffalo nickle and modern clad in 2 hrs. gotta go back there..........good luck all.

Hi Dan,
A little surprised there hasn't been any input yet. I went back and re-read the first report from the late stage of the field testing. There is a fair amount of information in that first post about useful settings that really ring true now that I have some time on the LTD.

I have been running mine at sensitivity settings normally from 35 to 60 depending where I am and how much discrimination I run. Yesterday, with rain on the way, I turned the discriminator up to 57 and could run sensitivity up to 65 and just go after the high conductive range coins. I usually run discriminator at zero or 1.

I have read about people running sensitivity into the 90's with discrimination between 1 and 6; I have not been able to get there yet.

If you are always running sensitivity in the single digits to keep it quiet, something is likely wrong. From the hunting I've done, I'd say that if you are hunting with the LTD in an area that has been hit hard and start turning up a lot of good finds running single digit sensitivity; you are seeing just how good this thing is with coins on edge or tilted.

Try re-reading here:

And then work forward on the posts from there.

Tvr I can run the sens. higher it was hitting hard on coins I've got a lot more experimenting to do.....this was just something I was trying...I was surprised it was very quite and hit hard.....thanks for the info hh....Dan

When I was talking to Felix at FT and telling him how often times results are better for me with lower sensitivity, in some areas I've run it as low as 40, he said one of the biggest mistakes made is running the sensitivity too high in areas where it needs to be turned down.

Still, I can't imagine there'd be a lot of advantage in running the sensitivity as low as 4 anywhere.

Marcomo somewhere I read about lower setting .....I was looking for findings from other users I didn't intend to insinuate that I had to run that low that was extreme low and it did good....I will experiment on extreme highs as well ..one thing for sure this is avery sensitive detector since I'm new to fisher brands the more info the better for all of us.....thanks....hh....Dan

Dont forget the great article on fisherf75.com
Read through the whole site, it shouldn't take more than 20 mins

In case you dont have time, remember a cell phone is a huge source of interference for the f75 even in standby mode, shut it totally off.

Dan, there are no "low secret settings." Many of us that have become accustomed to the F 75/LTD run with very low disc., like 0, and sen. cranked up to the point of the detector starting to become unstable or erratic. On the majority of the ground I hunt I am able to run 0 disc. and sen. near 90. Sometimes a little higher and some times a little less. I feel one of the mistakes many that are new to the F 75-F 75 LTD make is to crank it up right off rather then gradually work there way up to the higher and more chattery settings. There is the normal chatter, for lack of another word, which are all the targets being seen under the coil. Then, there is the erratic chatter which can be from bad ground or some interference source such as nearby power lines. Most erratic behavior can be eliminated utilizing frequency shift, lowering sen. some amount and using some higher disc. Some times it takes adjusting all three. Other times only an adjustment of one or two are necessary for the detector to become more stable. But keep in mind, erratic "chatter"is different then the normal "chatter" of the detector seeing everything in the ground. Since I have a lot of hours in with my regular F 75, I do little experimenting of settings with my LTD. I hunt in the bp mode, 0 disc., around 90 sen. and usually 3h and 4h tones for sifting through the trash. Good luck! HH jim tn

Dan, I try to hunt with O disc.. I try to start the sen. out about 70-75 and gradually work my way up as soil conditions will allow. I run either 2 or 3 tones depending on the amount of trash. I think the key is to hunt slow, slow, slow. I don't think there are any low secret settings. I hope this helps.

Mike
