F75SE:fisher: Running Low Sensitity Works Just Fine

Mud, my friend, you are making some broad assumptions today. How do you know for SURE that Tab and myself haven't found gold in the water. I have been detecting since 1972 and for a couple of those decades, with 3 different C Z units. Hmmm! HH jim tn

Well, dish then buddy! :clapping: You of course are right, I made a broad assumption, maybe in your later years you have been diagnosed with 'wetbone' and cant go in the water anymore? Whats up? How come not? Preference? I am here to learn and maybe provide a giggle...

Based upon following the dialog here for only 3yrs...I know you got a lot to share..Ron is wanting to try finding gold, you know we would all like to hear about what you think when it comes to that, your experience and advice..:please:...How should Ron proceed in his quest?

Full disclosure: last time I was at the doctor, he diagnosed me as being 'fullofcrap' i wanted a second opinion, he said, "go ask your wife"... Then he said, "On second thought, She's most likely insane for marrying you in the first place"...
Mud.

Well, the F70 has some sort of variable audio or whatever its called...one thing about DeltaPitch, a guy can tell all sorts of info about the target on the first ping...even a rotten zinc, that TID at 58 sounds different than a normal zinc at 61...a chucky cheese at 67 sounds "bigger" than two zincs stacked which have the same TID...now a copper P and a clad D both hit at 73...and they are very hard to tell apart by size. After all the thousands I've dug of both, I still cant guess them with any reliable accuracy...a canadian Penny is the real fooler, since it hits higher than a clad dime at 78, and makes a fellow think hes got some silver....silver rings are 81 mostly, and clad Q's are solid 84, and halfs are a solid 92...this is with my rig running my settings...

Mud

Okay Mud I took the F75 out in the yard and put some coins on the ground and run the coil over them at a couple of inches and got good strong tone, then I raised the coil up to 5 or 6" and got a weak signal all in Delta pitch tone setting. So it sounds like it does have some kind of variable audio pitch control going on in the DP tone setting.

Thats how you do it! :clapping: Then, your ears tell you what the target is and that variable volume how deep! Makes for super fast hunting, since these F's are built with fast recovery circuitry...

So a fellow gets to a spot, starts out with that comfortable stable setting, shortly, you know if you have to adjust sens up or down, based upon what the targets are telling you about what depth they are at...then you quickly 'find the lane' and clean it out!...pinpointing is a breeze with the low sens...wiggle coil, tap coil, whatever, nice and crisp, stoop, stab and go..no need at all to look at the screen...no need to even push the PP button, you know what you are after, and you know how deep it is, so you sort of center it up under the coil and stab it! Faster to do than to type out how..Ping to pouch in 10-15seconds, on lets say a 3"deep dime.. less if they are surface....Super easy to unravel spills, slanted stacks, mutidenom messes,...you can just snipe specific sounding targets if you want to...or get it all...quick brooming an area and on to the next! Swinging fast lights up deeper targets too...for some reason...even if you are set up for 5"max, every once in a while you will light up a deeper coin by swinging fast...Anyway, we all have our little system and settings that work for us, so you sort of find one you like and work it for a while...:beers:....I doubt theres a faster rig out there than the F's for this style of hunting?...and, a guy can always use it for deep old silver if you stumble into an area that has some..

All metal seems to have some sort of difference in deep and shallow signals, I use 2F in the woods and I think I can sense when targets are deeper vs shallow in that mode, also.
Maybe not, but my guesses on target depth usually are pretty right on before I check the actual depth with the pinpoint button.
4H is my park hunting mode, don't recall a huge amount of difference there, even on an 8" deep IH cent spill, but that high nickel tone really helped me notice 2 gold targets next to trash so far.
Might have found them in other tone modes, but for some reason I really notice the good high tones.
3H and 4H is a godsend for trashy site gold hunters like me.
Can't quite get the hang of DP yet, but still trying from time to time.

DP, 2F, 3H, & 4H, it sounds like we are getting down to personal preference and what ever works best for you. I did notice the reading in the manual the the DP mode is linked to the meter, so what you hear is what you see. On the other tone modes the meter and tones are not linked together so one what you hear may not be what the meter says.

At my age I don't think I will have a lot speed but I like the concept, finding a hand full of coins in a day is sure a lot better than a hand full a year.

I think we all know from reading your posts and seeing pics of your finds. Your a COIN hunter by preference. And a very good one..
You usually focus on one or two detectors of choice. Learn them extremely well, and have awesome results... A well practiced operation that garners you maximum results.

Tabman on the other hand seems to own one of every detector model ( Exaggerated) . Grabs the one of choice for the day, and goes out digging everything that beeps. He too has great results from digging shear numbers of targets.. Of course that style ( he self admits) wears a guy down rather quickly. Jim Tn makes target recovery choices using metered machines, and knowledge that finds many great targets with a minimum of junk digging.

Two styles that both work for the Gentlemen in TN............. Thanks Guys for sharing your styles, your finds, and learned knowledge as you go about your hobby...

And men. I agree with you both if that is the reason mentioned by Mudpuppy about water detecting............ Snakes in the water would keep me out too............ I might not detect near the water with poison snakes laying around.

Yeah! Is this Forum a great place or what?:clapping:

All sorts of different styles, methods, gear and targets sought..A guy can learn a lot about whatever specific target they seek by reading as much of the Forums as possible..we had a conversation here a few years back regarding old parks, somebody asked a question in the form of a poll, "how much gold is in an average sized park dating from the 60's" or something to that effect...general consensus was 6 pieces...so a fellow has to wade in there after it, thinking about it, hunting for it, the old, 'With all this poo, theres gotta be a pony in here somewhere' kind of thing....anyway, this Forum gives a guy insights from the posts of members that have developed a specialty, how they hunt and think, dirt gold seems to be more of an 'its the Indian not the bow' kind of deal ...I'd sure like to hear from the guys that have been hunting metal hard since the early 70's, specifically regarding dirt gold,...few things I've learned and applied, get really fast at finding the lane, (site reading) get really fast at target recovery, and then just stay at it, develop an eye for a place...

I got really lucky early on right after I started detecting and BEFORE I found this Forum...I was hunting a park, in broad daylight, with a D handle tiling spade like most noobs, didnt know dink! and here comes some old guy with a detector that had been doing this for years, we started talking and he told me, if you want to get real good real fast, "dig 1000 pennies, and dig 1000 pulltabs, and use nothing but a screwdriver"...so thats what I set out to do, and you know what? It sure teaches a fellow to think about locations, settings, how people move about, fast recovery, rig settings and all that..etc...Along the way I got my first gold class ring, (lost in 87, and successfully returned) right in the pulltab signal, except it was all alone out on an old baseball field....amazingly, after what he put me through, me and this guy are still friends!...so, its good to try to pattern a specialist for quick success...If anybody wants to know about hunting clad and beercans, I'm yer huckleberry!! Oh, the tiling spade? Yeah, thats covered in cobwebs out in the shed someplace!..

These forums are a true community if you want to look at it that way.
A place where like minded people gather and can give you support, a welcomed pat on the back when you do good, and sincere understanding and support when it goes the other way.
Very important for those of us that mostly have in our real lives friends and family that look at us like we are just strange Muggles because we like to dig in the dirt.
The advice, info and opinions I have read have helped me choose detectors, coils and other accessories that have let me enjoy this hobby more than I ever thought possible with no regrets about any of those choices.
The knowledge gained in the nuts and bolts of this biz about techniques and exactly what to do out there to maximize my quality finds and enjoyment has been invaluable,
No way would I be at this point in my life in this hobby without all of that, this I know for certain.
For all those reasons and more I look at it as a privilege, or even more than that as a duty to help anyone I can find that next great thing using any small amount of knowledge I can share.
Pay it forward is not just an idea in this hobby, it seems to be the rule that most follow.
Other hobbies are not like this, or not quite like this in the same way, in my experience.
It's the kind of people this hobby attracts that make the difference I think, and I will be ever thankful I took the plunge and dove in to this great hobby and all it entails.
