Was able to get out last night at the old fairgrounds site after we had some rain. Haven't been hunting much at all since the ground is about impossible to get through since the rain has slacked off. Did manage to get three Wheats, 2 clad dimes and three Memorials - one of the dimes was a hard-earned rocky 6" target and IDed 75-76 both directions pretty consistently. Didn't hunt for too long given the ground conditions and ended up in an open area where a parking lot stood for 40+ years. Dug a couple old pulltabs, then a Wheat. Got a solid high tone with no VDI - pretty sure it's a deep coin. It's living below 7" and I can't get past 4" right now!!! So will have to return for this goodie - was able to mark it for later!!! We need some more rain - like 4 straight days of it so I can get back out there again!

The disc golf course was a huge hit among the local "throwers", myself included! Played a "glow round" out there last Saturday night and everyone had a blast. I heard positive comments about the amount of ambient light vs what they expected, which will make future rounds enjoyable. I have elected myself an unofficial "groundskeeper" of the course, among others; and spent Monday clearing some bricks, rebar, railroad ties, etc debris off the course. This is especially helpful for nighttime play - and helps with scanning what's underneath

Once we get more rain detecting season will start up again - normally most areas around here are "unhuntable" during July-Sept when our dry season usually occurs. It's been nice having a rainy and cool summer this year for the most part and being able to learn more of the Deus's language.

Hope you guys are still able to dig - good luck and happy hunting!

Excellent idea mr. "groundskeeper"!

Dude: "Hey what are you doing to our new course?"
You: "Using my detector to find all the dangerous, life and liberty threatening nails and garbage just below the surface!, I sacrifice my time and equipment for the betterment of the course"
Dude: "your great, let me give you an ice cold beer while my girlfriend massages your shoulders"
Fade out.....................

It's a great use of the space provided to make it a disc golf course while preserving the detecting side of things. I've been hunting the now-disc golf course for over a year - and frequently enough to where the Memphis police dept sometimes approach me at night to see what goodies I've uncovered. Most of the time it's Wheats and a few silvers, but every now and then I can show them a cool token or two - and some of the older officers love the tokens more for nostalgic purposes. In a city where there's a lot of tension for different reasons, it seems like the old "Libertyland" site has a place in many people's hearts with the funnel cakes, roller coasters (there were two there), bumper boats, arcade, etc. It operated for 30 years, from 1976-2005ish, and before that the wooden roller coaster and grand carousel operated since the 1920s. It was a place you could go in the middle of the city and actually have a lot of (clean) fun, and this element has been preserved for many people with the new DG course addition. And for the detectorists who can brave the multitude of ferrous and non-ferrous trash...old coins and neat tokens can be found as well!

Recently the city placed 55-gallon drum trashcans at every teepad, which makes throwing away the junk finds a lot easier rather than hiking several hundred feet to the nearest receptacle or dumpster as it was before.

I went there last night, and some of the targets I literally had to chisel out of the clay at 4-6" deep...still waiting on more rain...man that wore me out but it was a decent trip!
