Falsing and coil cover

Ive noticed the past few weeks how important it is to clean the dirt off your cover. Ive noticed on occassions my detector begins acting like i have too high of a sensitivity setting. To check it i switched to AUTO and it was still occurring. I held my detector at waist high and got NO EMI. I turned the machine on and off and it was still there, but where i was hunting there shouldnt be much EMI. So i thought minerals. I then removed my coil cover and there didnt seem to be much dirt had filled the top grove. Put it back together and poof it was gone... no more problems. Thats happened a few times for me and the fix was always removing the coil cover. Is it possible some coils are more sensitivity than others? I did try noise cancel and reducing sensitivity from 27 to 23 which didnt solve the problem. So it really doesnt take a full coil cover to effect the coil.

...i agree, i've had that issue also, and it doesn't take much dirt to cause trouble.
mine needs to be checked and cleaned, right now!

i also get falsing when the coil drags in high clover and/or buttonweed.

i've gotten better at discerning iron falsing.

my real problem was when my Slimline 1050 developed a short! that drove me crazy!
