Farm Field Hunt With The Excelerator 10 x 14

Hit a well-pounded field today with the SE and the 10 x 14. It was SO windy I was about to get blown down and cold too but we braved it for a while. I got two wheaties, a flat button, and this 1842 Large Cent. I was running the SE at manual 28 and gain at 7. It was well-behaved, even despite power lines nearby and a buddy with a Quattro and another with a Sovereign GT. The coil performed well and it's good to know that while I'm detecting I'm also getting my upper body workout in!

This sounded NICE!

Like most LC's I find, this one was fairly well "toasted"! But a readable date...

I wouldn't say that it has a GREAT deal of depth over the stock coil, but it seems to be very sensitive to smaller stuff. For example, I dug a 22 slug at about 8 inches...really had to work to find it! It sounded like a penny or a button. And it can be run a little hotter on the sensitivity. And the great ground coverage...that's a BIG plus in the fields and at the beach. And on that Large Cent, which was probably down 8 to 10 inches (well into the solid unplowed ground) the pitch and quality of the signal was outstanding.

Yeah, a little bit...maybe an inch or so. It's hard to tell in a plowed field too, so maybe at another place it would be more apparent. Like other big coils though I think their strength isn't so much if they're "depth-demons" or not as the enhancements they offer in ground coverage, stability, and target separation.
