Farm finds

These finds don't have much in the way of value, but I am guessing they are mostly very old. The finds come from 2 visits and quite a bit of lead was also dug up. The areas detected were around various outbuildings on the property away from the main house. The property has been farmed since the early 1840's but the earliest of the buildings I detected around was built in 1863.

Great looking finds John, my type of relics! Is that photo on the bottom an old dog rego tag for 1926? Like the kangaroo buckle too.

Hello Golden, Yep, it is a dog registration tag for 1926/27, the kangaroo is actually a brooch type thing as it has a pin at the back. I have straightened it out a bit and it is made of copper so I am thinking it was probably worn by a child.

:Hi John. Got your email. About the bottle, if it's the same as mine, it a medicinal poison bottle. On the obverse side yours should have three panels, two side panels with tiny crosses, and in the middle panel writting which reads "Not to be Taken". I've got a partial label on mine and I've tried to figure oput what it might say. I think it's similar to the Gentian Violet stuff our grandmas or mums would have use on our self-inflicted cuts and scratches. Part of the label on mine reads: "cuts, sprains, Affected areas..." It has one of those screw type black malamaine (if spelt correctly!) lids, bit like plastic, not quite. In your top photo, I also see harmonica reeds, clock inards, a door knob surround, buckle, button, glass soy or worsterchire sauce bottle top, cutlery and part of the top of a lantern. The relic that's got me stumped is the bottom left hand corner, rectangular with cogs on it. Is it part of a razor?

Hello Joe, good to hear from you! Sounds like you're coming into good detecting weather now that the snow is melting. I don't know how you guys go for so long without detecting there. It'd kill me! So, are you thinking of another type of detector to take the Quattro's place? I saw a second hand Quattro for sale here in Victoria for half the price I paid for mine, and thought to myself that it would make a great back-up machine should mine ever fail. I never bought it in the end, and my oldie, despite the extensive use it gets, hasn't faultered at all. It just keeps on going....! Anyway, let me know what your plans are with regard to the detecting game.
