After hunting this old Civil War site , probably 15 times, I dug this eagle button R in the very same area I had done many times before. Thew button is somewhat of a rarity here in Arizona and my favorite button. I have dug about 200 buttons and this is the only R one.
The R stands for the Mounted Rifles - a group of soldiers that performed things like traveling with the pay wagon, riding after law breakers, etc. It's also in great shape, as are many of the digs in Az due to lack of rainfall. Steve in so az
