Favorite programs/settings???

I typically use the "hot" program with the XY screen and tweak settings depending on where I'm at. I almost always use tracking ground balance. Mostly hunt old homesites, parks, school yards, and have a few farm fields on the agenda. Any favorite programs or tips/tricks for someone still learning? I have come a long way with it confidence wise but there are some rough day still yet...

I started with Full Tones and 0 Disc. But have migrated away from that and almost exclusively use Multitones with a modicum of Disc. I have mild soil so I never use tracking. I usually set it about 3 points below actual. Unless you are in heavy trash or iron, reduce your Reactivity. R = 1 or 2 is still plenty fast and will get you more depth than R=3. I use 4, 8 or 12 kHz most of the time but will use 18 kHz to help find the smaller targets and the lower conductors. 18 kHz is a button killer.

The best thing you can do, is when you get a weak good signal, play with the settings to see what will brighten it up for you.

Hey Matterny 4. Ok first everything that Lodge Scent suggested is right on. The only thing I do differently I run 18 almost all the time except to check a deep target or cap with different freq. I would also look at Calabash Digger's post on the XY screen if you use it on hot program. I don't use if as much now, mostly use a modified "deep" program. However if you do the old house sites a big problem are the deep hardware pieces that ring really high. The XY can help where these are a problem if your mainly interested in coins. Might also google Scott Clark Detecting site. He discusses why the disc setting and its sister your tone setting may be the most important settings on your machine(but not necessarily like you may think) Just be patient. It will get easier and more productive. HH
