Then you spin it from top to bottom (oriented as you have it).
As a result, you see what the standing critter is doing to the smiling critter.

you're absolutely right........ that was the first thing that came to mind upon seeing it. its a simple, mechanical means of animation. antique porn? i dunno?:shrug:
