Finally a decent day at the beach

It has been pretty dismal on the beach of late. Found 11 quarters and a dime in a 25 yard by 25 yard area yesterday in an hour and a half which was pretty unusual. These coin "pockets" are getting harder to find and it takes some luck to stumble onto one.

Nice digging! It's all about target density and moving up and down the slope until you locate the "right" density of targets and sand compaction type.

Trez: I hear ya. Been there many times of late. I have gotten skunked more than I ever have in the past. It has been a pretty tough year and I have not found a ring in months. But it is nice to get out and enjoy the beach.

That's right Fletch. Sometimes I spend hours out there and never find that "right density" and sometimes I hit it right away. I don't think there is any ryhme or reason to beach hunting. As a fellow MD'er said recently, "It just depends on where you step."

I haven't been to the beach in awhile but I'm looking forward to the weather heating up which will encourage the tourists and others to get to the beach and actually get into the water! Logically, a lot depends on how hot it is at the beach. If it's cold, you can see them huddled under the umbrellas under blankets or towels and when it's hot, you will see them frolicking in the sun, splashing the slick suntan lotion on and we all know what happens then!...the rings slide off etc;
There is some homework to do to work the beaches well as the professionals will point out but even they are dependant on Mother Nature to work her magic!!
