HIt the same area I have been hitting for several months and after a good rain (coincidence?) my daughter and I found 2 wheats and the quarter and mercury dime shown here. We also found a pentagon-shaped pin with two posts to clip on. Anyone know what it is or representes? It is black and about 1" in length. The deteriorated round things are the clasps that go on the posts. Thanks

How deep were the coins?? And I wonder if the rain did help. Did you set the detector up any differently? And congrats on the silver. The V is a great machine

Usually wet or moist soil helps with conductivity. That and maybe you coming at it from a slightly different angle is what did the trick.
Congrats, Hombre

Nice going on the silver.

The V will come through every time for silver, gold, copper, whatever. It can get it and get it deep.I am done trying to convince other detectorist of the power of this detector. The proof is showing up daily now.Keep up the great detecting homebre! :crylol:

Nice finds and I think the other item is a military insignia that pins on a shirt collar of our Military personel "modern" you can do a check on it iam sure

Nice silver finds. good to see you are still pounding that site

Thanks for all the responses. To answer some questions, my guess is the coins were from 2 to 5 inches deep. My daughter found 2 wheaties with the Bounty Hunter IV. And we both found a lot of clad. I did not set the detector much differently than usual. Since if is a low trash area except for pull tabs, I set the DISC above iron, and then super-tuned.

I'm assuming they hit hard when you went over them? I wonder if just going at a different angle helped or maybe you just hadn't gone over those spots you found them before?

My guess is it was a combination of wetness and hitting areas we missed. We got so many hits it was almost nonstop digging. It is also possible with a lot of hot days and days below 20, the soil changed and was broken up by all the water freezing and thawing. Just a guess.

Hombre, I think also that with freezing and thawing of the soil, the soil can raise or buckle and shift coins, for example if one was tilted or at an angle not easily detected, this movement may put one flat and make the signal much louder.

I can go back to places and always find something missed.Angle, ground conditions change, detector setup. There are so many variables. The main thing to remember. The v goes deep. You have to have confidence in your tools,or you are not going to get the job done right.:nerd:

Why coil did you use homebre?

I would like to try one on the tejon.I just bet this has not been found out good yet. That coil on the v just sounds good to me.8" concentric.

At some point I want to get the 8" donut. After reading Tabman's posts of his on the Golden, I want to try it on the V. I know I sure like this 5.75.

I wouldn't let one or two hunts with a certain coil make a decision for you unless you have the funds. I'm not sayin it's a bad coil, but I'm sure the stock or 5.75 coil could of done just the same, they just weren't being used that day. I've been trying to decide on a 10" for my Vaquero for a couple months now and luckily Rusty Henry is sending me one off of a demo lobo super traq to try for myself and see if it helps at all.

Keep us posted on the Vaquero + 10" coil. I'm thinking that you might need a bigger shovel.
