Finally Got Out to Play

Sven

Well-known member
Has to be more than a month since I got out last, bad weather and other important matters got in the way.
Today was weather wise an exceptional day to go hunting, originally was to be about 60F, that all changed
high to day was 45F. At least it was sunny and pretty windy. I was able to sneak away for about 3.5 hours of hunting
a local schoolyard. The ground was still wet from all the rain, just dry enough to keep from being messy.

Had the Vista Gold out with the Super 6 and became pretty proficient pinpointing targets with this coil.
Probably dug around 100 targets today, loaded up my pouch with junk and coins. Today had my disc set just a touch lower
than what its normally set at. used that setting as the tone break as well. I would alternate hunting in disc and two tone mode and use single tone all metal mode to help
size and or pinpoint some targets. The trigger switch makes it convenient to switch modes back and forth quickly during the pinpoint process as well. Similar to how I used to hunt with Tesoros.

Hunted a section that an AT Pro guy hunted who said there wasn't much back a few months ago. I figured I wanted to see for myself.
Did fairly well, about $9.00+ in change. A 190? Canadian large cent.

Weather turns to carp Sunday, looks like Santa is bringing down some cold weather this weekend thru out next week.
Made the most of what I had to today.

Nice day to detect Sven and you really dig a lot of targets. The DTVG is a great machine and you get a lot out of it. The large Canadian penny from the early 1900's was a nice find. Here it was 80 degrees today in N.C. Christmas Day is going to be 77 degrees. Going to hit a beach with the Mirage after I get off work in the morning. Just too hot for relic and coin hunting here right now. Full moon and super high and low tide tomorrow should make for an interesting day...Stuart

Thanks for the Report sven. thats a good dig . I know without fail now i have been going up to the hill of many nails and pulling out 3 to 5 non Iron targets consistently , Its actually fun to use the VG and the super 6 is a very good coil . but it does hang up in the sticks a bit . when in the woods may have to get the 5" round coal for the woods hope more warm weather comes your way .

Must admit i am seriously looking at getting a Vista Gold in January, especially with that 8x6 coil as a i use a similar size coil on my DFX and its just a really nice size coil to swing, could well be deadly on some of my trashy roman/saxon sites for getting in between the trash to find the decent finds, only thing that worries me still is the long term reliability of these units, especially the pots as when i do research on a detector i look for a long term use and reliability and until it ticks that final box i will hold off from buying one.

Glad you got out Sven, weather here in the UK has been pretty bad as well, but its looking good for tomorrow and the day after, and also the Sugar Beat has just come off last week on one of my best permissions,so going to hit that site hard.

Sven,

Did the guy with ATP have his machine turned on? You cleaned up mighty nicely with a large cent to boot!

He did....................has owned it for a few years and does quiet well with it. When you have a target screen ID machine, you tend to dig a lot less, make you lazy and they do lie to you---
Especially if you rely on them 100% for accuracy. Some folks like to meander about aimlessly looking for targets sweeping wildly as they tromp around and miss by lots and lots of good targets
because their coil is never put over them. I on the other hand go a much slower pace, try and grid an area and overlap my sweeps. And picked up the motto "leave nothing for anyone else".
And take the trash as well, just in case I want to come back if I feel the place will be reseeded by those with holes in their pockets...........especially if I find gold there.
Can't knock the performance of an AT Pro, very popular and find a lot of stuff. But, I love it if I can come behind all the bells and whistles machines and find a pile they missed. The Vista Gold is one machine that
seems to work extremely well for me for this type of work.

[size=large]MEGA I guarantee you will be blow away with the Vista Gold it will pull things out of that roman site , and make you think of how you could have possibly missed them . thats what the machine is made for . make sure you get the super 6 or the other small coil . no mucking about it .
