finding gold

nuggetripper

New member
I've gone out looking for gold the last couple weekends. I'm having some trouble with ground noise,I've changed the settings on my machine but nothing seems to work. the area i detect in is in the mountains of Montana. i have the 18.75kHz double d elliptical.I did find a 4 gram nugget but it was at the surface just under the shale rubble.I'm also wondering what kind of depth i could expect to reach.

Welcome to the forum, and good going!

If the ground noise is is still to bad to handle with the X-70(5) in P Mode(even with the Iron Mask turned up higher), then try hunting in the other C&T Mode instead. You will give up some depth and sensitivity but it will be quieter(especially with all the -minus numbers blocked out) and will still be good to use for gold prospecting with that coil.

The X-70(5) is very good but did you try a Tesoro Lobo, Whites MXT, F75 or T2 Ltd in that area? Those units are suppose to handle bad ground mineralization the best of all VLF's. If no VLF works there due to ground noise then you may have to go to the PI unit, Whites TDI Pro.

thanks for the advise. Tried that on the second day. I noticed the ground noise was gone but the numbers and the sounds vary with the size of target.
