Finding old places

steve in so la

Something I have had some luck doing is to find a park on an old map and compare it to today's map. Is it still there ? If not then what is in it's place ?
One such site I have been doing now for a while used to be a city park many years ago. Then they built a school next to it and eventually they added the park to the school grounds.
But the fact that I know where the old area is gives me an advantage. I dont find old coins at the school of course, but do find the old silver & wheats at the old park area. Give it a try sometime - go to the library and compare old & new maps. You just might find other places to detect as well. Steve in so az

old maps -- treasure maps! :) Good tip!

I saw an old map in the University collection and was going over it when I see "old stage station" on it. Talk about asn X marks the spot ! We went there , didn't find a lot but I dug an old dropped bullet, complete, from the Civil war era. steve

its kinda fun doing the research aint it.

the tectin. There are three of us that detects together, we've been friends since our high school days. I do most the research. I compare old and new maps, find the concordance of a site, hop in the truck with my GPS and find the site. My other buddy who has the gift of gab gets permission from the owner (He could talk a cow into milking itself for him). The other buddy just goes along to detect with us (but he's a bunch of fun to have along. We have a ball detecting together and trying to out do each other. Friend,Fun & Finds. It don't get any better.
God Bless & HH,
KY Bud
