Finds from last couple of hunts

JJ

Member
Havent posted in a while but have had a little more time to hunt lately. Here are some finds from the last few hunts this week. I wanted to get my fix before winter sets in. The gun is an older Nichols Detective 250 cap gun (works). The token brought multiple offers while I was trying to ID it. I usually don't sell what I find but was offered enough to cover a sorely needed x-1 probe. Hope you all get out soon. Thanks for looking, JJ

Nice finds. That cap gun almost looks like the real thing. I really like the trade token and the French coin. Given the date, I wonder if the coin was brought to the US by a US soldier who served in WWI and was made into a fob. The token is nice too. For some reason, Iowa tokens have been going up in price lately. Sounds like you did well on the deal and the token went to a happy collector. Thanks for sharing your finds and HH.

Very nice finds and the cap gun does look like the real thing!!
Glad you were able to get your x-1 probe JJ ....you'll love it.

Thanks for the replies fellas. The cap gun was DEEP but gave a sweet sounding tone so I kept digging. It looked real to me too until I turned it over and noticed half the cylinder was missing and the inside was hollow. My finds have been getting a little deeper with practice. I did get a wheatie at a measured 11" with the stock 1050 coil. I think that may be because I figured out what works best for me w/ sensitivity: Manual vs. Semi Auto. I enjoyed being in control of my sensitivity in Manual as I was one to ramp it up or down throughout a site as conditions would allow, always hunting with the threshold on the edge of insanity. I figured out I can do the same thing in semi-auto and keep the machine sounding stable. In fact my Exp II runs very stable in Semi-auto 32 in one large are of a park I was hunting in, so I would then switch to manual, knock it down a few numbers, then raise it back up in manual to see exactly how high I could run. I think manual 30 was about the limit. The other big difference I have made is slowing WAY down. I have been finding allot of good stuff in trashy areas just by slowing down to a crawl. I know that sounds like common sense, but for someone like me who thought they were going slow before, this didn't make sense until I made a made a conscious effort to really slow way down. I'm gonna try to sneak out a few more times before winter hits. Never know which hunt will be your last before everything is covered in snow. JJ

are you running the threshold very high or very low. thanks.

I like the Threshold tone: 7 and everything else at 10. Deep off/Fast off, Cond Sounds. IM: -10

I did sneak out to a very old park close to my house yesterday. I used to hunt it all the time with my Sovereign toten' buddy before i had my Exp II. I decided to try a few spots that he told me a while back to stay away from because they are long hunted out, frequently pounded, and a waste of my time. He wouldn't even hunt the area anymore. I didn't find any deep silver coins yesterday but the early wheaties were popping up everywhere, all deep, then found a mid-to-late 1960's pocket spill. Post 64' :rage: Then this thing came calling from the deep! Not an old silver coin but I guess it will have to do. Thanks, JJ

i use the xs so i guess the threshold is set up different. that's a nice ring, gold and silver.
