Finds from Ocean City, Maryland

No silver, no gold, just a small pile of clad, two toy cars, a pull tab, an aluminum kiddie ring, and the best find of all.......a jewel encrusted red purse bookmark. Now how pathetic is that?

I did have fun detecting the beach though and with very little competition to boot. I only saw two other detectorists on the beach. Low tide was bright and early so that's when I hunted and after the sunbathers cleared out in the afternoon. The sky's were overcast for most of our stay except for the day we were slated to leave so at 5:00 am I grabbed the Garrett and the camera and headed out. Of all my trips to the beach I was finally able to get those classic sunrise over the surf pictures. I took about two dozen but this one was the prettiest.

The 2500 was very stable even in the wet sand but pinpointing was a little scratchy. All in all it was a great weekend.

Well, at very least you got a beautiful photo out of the morning. I have never been all that lucky at the beach, myself. I also find recovery in the sand harder than in grass or bark chips. All things considered I'll take an old park or school.

Did you try both the wet and dry sand? FWIW, I would have gone with the stock coil.

Chris

I tried some dry sand detecting but most of my finds came from the wet sand at low tide. In the dry sand it was either good solid signals or 50 yard stretches of none at all but no junk to speak of. The only junk I dug was one pull tab. Now that I've tried the beach, I too prefer dirt hunting but I guess if I'd have found a nice gold ring or two I'd be thinking a little differently. I can't believe how hard the saltwater is on clad coins.

Forgot to mention that I also went to the shipwreck museum in Fenwick Island, Delaware just North of O.C. Someone had posted a bunch of pics from there on this forum a while back and WOW. Three pound discs of 22 karat gold, finds from the RMS Titanic and more spanish coins than you could shake a stick at. They're probably still cleaning up the puddle of drool that I left behind. If you're ever in the area it's definitely worth checking out.

B2H - I've been to two different Titanic exhibits, and they were absolutely incredible! Something I'll never forget. Glad you had a good time!

When pinpointing, yes. When swinging, I tried to but sometimes I would get it in the sand. I suppose the sand on the coil could have caused the scartchiness.

Alright!:clapping:I love using the GTI 2500 on the beach. I almost always use the 5"x10" double"D" Scorcher search coil (my favorite). Even if no keepers are found it's always a good time.:detecting: Beautiful pic of sunset behind detector. Happy Hunting!:)

As long as you had a good time that's all that counts. Maybe gold next time.
I really like your sunrise picture Steve. Good hunting to you ! Gene
