Finds from the last month

small change

New member
I haven't posted finds for a month, but I have still been getting out every weekend with a few after work evening hunts thrown in. The finds were accumulated from several hunts, which included a few schools, an old lake park picnic spot right in town that I "rediscovered" with the SE, and a few places from an informal group hunt to a town in Missouri that I hadn't been to before. I won't bore anyone with too many details of each hunt like I have been. I did have one neat experience at the local picnic spot near the lake where I pulled a silver Washington, 3 Mercury Dimes, and a Buffalo and a Jefferson Nickel out of one hole. The signal was not good at all, much like pull tabs often sound, so I was really surprised when I used the Lesche to dig around a tree root & pried up one of the mercs. The probe sounded off again with a penny-like tone (not high enough for typical silver finds)& after digging a bit more I got the quarter & the 2 other Mercs. The next probing gave a lower nickel like tone which resulted in the two nickels. The Buffalo must have been sandwiched between two Mercs due to the blue/green stains on both sides of it. The Nickels really changed the target sound. That evening I had went there planning on digging up a lot of junk hoping to maybe unmask some more coins. I had already searched the spot three times before & had recovered 5 silver dimes, the sterling silver aircraft pin, & around 30 wheats. Nothing on the hill was very deep at all (3-5" on most) but the trash was thick enough I had to go pretty slow & use my 6" coil. After I dug the coin spill, I did recover a War Nickel a few feet away, & a couple wheat after that, but most of the next 3 hours I dug dozens of tabs & a few rusty pieces of iron wire, nails, & bolts. In case anyone's wondering, the gold colored ring I found isn't really gold. It's just plated & the plating has worn off in spots. I was actually skunked on silver a few times, on July 4th weekend & also the following weekend, but once I started searching the local lake spot after work, I got back on track. I keep wanting to go back to the lake again but the last time I was there, it was getting quite dry so I may have to wait a while before I go back again, at least until after the next big rain.

We still have plenty of time left though before the season ends.
I'm just so freakin' busy right now trying to keep Dad up and running...but that is priority #1.

When the season changes and there isn't so much mowing to keep up with....I'll head your way and we can REpound a few of the "seedy" parks:biggrin:

You would be correct with the Nickel and the Dimes being sandwiched together leaving that Greenish Crud on the Nickel. Last time I dug something like this, it was reversed and the Crud was on the Dime instead of the Nickel. The reading can be way off when there is Nickels present in the same hole as Wheats and or Silver. I once got a Seated Dime that was sandwiched between 2 V-Nickels a few years ago and the Dime, you could barely make it out that it was Seated, the only way to see it was Seated was the outline of the Green Crud around the body of the Seated Liberty. That find read a 15 on Digital but had me curious just because I had never gotten a 15 before.

Anyways, Congrats on digging that hole and finding all them Coins in it. Nothing like multiple Silver's in one hole and other Coins as a bonus. You did great on the Silver and all them neat Misc. Items you uncovered as well. Love the holed Wheatie with the Silver Chain on it.;) Hope you find a few more goodies at that Lake Park when you get back there. Continued Success, Good Luck and HH to you Small Change!:detecting:

I would like to hit a pocket spill that wasn't clad for once:confused:
