Back again with another round of finds. Hope everyone is finding some goodies to add to your collections. Story Time!!!
Tim and I headed out Saturday Morning, only a 1/2 hour late of what we were hoping to hit the road. I kinda overslept and didn't get up until the exact time I was suppose to be at Tim's, so I had to call him and tell him I overslept and I would be there as fast as I could. Tim actually got up earlier than he usually does so he was wide awake and ready to head out by the time I got to his house. We then hit the road, heading back to the Ball Diamond where Tim had found his 1910 Barber Half and his 1920-d Standing Liberty Quarter at the weekend before.
We arrived and got the gear out and started hunting. We knew that it was going to be a tough hunt since the targets were almost none existent so we had our work cut out for us. We hunted for about an hour and then it happened.......a jerk drove up in his pickup and asked what we were looking for. I took my Headphones off and told him Coins. He then told me that the Ball Diamond was owned by the American Legion. I looked at him and said "yeah!". He then went on telling me that everything in the Ball Diamond was owned by the American Legion and any finds belonged to the American Legion. I stood there for a moment.....thinking what an idiot! He then told me that if I didn't want to hand over any finds to the American Legion that Tim and I should get back into our vehicle and get the heck out of here! I just stood there chuckling at this moron and shaking my head. I thought I would try and play it cool, at least as long as I could. He then mentioned something about digging and I stopped him mid-sentence. I then said "hold on a minute, for one thing, the few holes we do dig you can't even tell we had been there!". He then replied "I know that", and then the stupid part came out of his mouth that I just couldn't believe. He then remarks to me about if he needed dirt, that he could bring his tractor over and get a bucket load of dirt if he wanted too. I almost told him if he was that dumb to do it, go ahead but thought I better not since I was trying my best not to intensify the situation. I just stood there thinking "what the hell is this moron's problem and what is his IQ!". He then asked why I was standing there with a dumb look on my face. I almost told him "because your a damn moron and by the way....what is your IQ?". Before I could answer him, Tim comes over and the guy repeated about how everything belonged to the American Legion. Tim then asked where he lived and he didn't say. Tim then asked where we could leave our finds and the jerk replied to us "yeah, and you guys are going to be truthful about what you find". It was a good thing that fence on the Ball Diamond was between me and the jerk in his pickup because he practically called us liar's and that isn't something I put up with. Tim then asked again and he told us to leave it over at the bar. Tim said fine! The guy said fine then and then left town. I looked at Tim and said "what a moron!". Like the American Legion would care about a few Pennies, Dimes, and Quarters. We then continued hunting and hunting with minimal results. About a half hour later the guy came back and must have been mad we were still there. He pulled up next to my car and apparently wrote down my plate down I imagine. That's fine because we were not doing anything wrong! There has been a lot of times where this has happened and I'm sure that they find out that we didn't do anything wrong so I'm not worried about it. It's totally Legal to hunt Public Grounds and that is what this was and besides, it didn't look like it was used very often at all anymore since there was grass growing in the In-Field area where the Red Gravel was. He then left and we didn't see him again. We didn't get much out of the Diamond and it was after Noon when we left. Every person that lived in town after this waved to us as they drove by and we waved back. Apparently, this guy we ran into was the town jerk since we didn't have any other problems with anyone else. In fact, there were people that had stopped and asked if we were finding anything the weekend before and we told them a little bit but not much. Even one of the close neighbors to the Ball Diamond had a detector and said he had detected the Ball Diamond before and only found a few Coins himself so I don't understand what the other guy's problem was that morning. You couldn't even see where we had dug any plugs at when we left. I was going to go to the bar and drop off a box full of Junk and the few Clad Coins we did find but Tim didn't like the idea of it, just in case of problems at the bar possibly started by the jerk before. I told Tim that if we would have dropped off everything, that most likely, that guy would have been embarrassed to show his face at the bar since I'm sure everyone would have given him crap about what he did and would have been the town gossip for the month. Before we left, I drove around looking for the fellas truck but it wasn't to be seen in town. I guess Tim was probably right when he said that he was probably a farmer and he was just peeved because his crops were doing bad. As we left town, I do believe we found the guys truck on a nearby farm so Tim was most likely right. Tim got a Barber Dime, a Token, a War Nickel and a few Wheats. I found a couple Wheats, a Clad Half, a Silver Quarter, 2 Merc's and a Silver Rosie.
The next stop was a Church out in the country we were looking for. We hunted this with only a couple finds. Tim got a Wheatie or 2 and I got 2 Wheats and a Jefferson Nickel.
We then stopped by another Country Church and was able to pull a few things. Tim only was able to get 1 Wheatie I believe. I got 3 Wheats and a Rosie here.
We then decided to go hit the Park where we were finding all them Early Wheats and Barber Coins at the last couple outings. It was getting late and it was time to make up for some much needed finds. We hunted this again until dark, and especially Tim was exhausted from the heat and humidity. I kinda chuckled at him and asked if he was ok? He said yeah but he wasn't use to the heat like I was. I work outdoors while Tim works indoors with AC. Anyways, we hunted this Park and we headed over to where the Carnival was set up last time to see if the rest of the Park held anything for goodies. We hunted with minimal results in this other section. Don't know why the Coins are not there. I was digging Deep Screw Caps from the 6"-8" Range so I moved over to the other side of the Park where Tim was. Tim then walked across the road where he had found a few Wheats before we left last time. I started detecting walking towards Tim. I got about half-way across the Park and got a good 28 on Digital and showed about 6"-8" Deep. I hoped for Silver.......and it turned out to be SILVER! A 1907-s Barber Dime shows itself from the depths and I was one happy camper seeing that. I covered the hole and detected around this area without finding anything else. I then worked my way towards Tim again since Tim looked like he was digging a lot over where he was. I almost got to the road and got a Deep 26 on Digital. I dug a plug and out pops an Indian Head Penny. Cool! I hunted around this area a bit but only was able to dig a few Deep Screw Caps so I walked across the road. I thought about going over where Tim was but then decided to just let him have it for himself and headed back over to where everyone had detected the last few times we were there. I headed over by some Playground Equipment and got a nice 28 on Digital that showed about 8" Deep. Dug it and out pops Barber Dime #2! 1903 was this one so I worked this area a bit to see if there were any other Coins. I dug another Injun near here along with a Wheatie or 2. I then worked my way back over to a section where there was a lot of Wheats found on previous visits. I started getting DEEP Wheats again....in the exact same area where 4 hunters were hunting last weekend. These Wheats were all in the 10"-12" Range and I was having a blast pulling them keepers. I then popped out a Merc. Tim was headed over my way after about a good hour's hunt where he was. I asked what he was finding over where he was at and he said some Deep Screw Caps, 2 Merc's and a few Wheats. I then told him that I had pulled 2 Barber Dimes, a Merc, 2 Indian Heads, and a few Wheats. I then told him that I got an Indian Head and a Barber Dime over in the other part of the Park but the rest had come from the area where we all hunted many times before. Tim couldn't believe I was still popping out Coins.....especially after 4 of us had pounded the spot to death last time there. I continued hunting this area for a bit and got a few more Wheats. Tim headed over to the other section of Park again since there had to be Coins there somewhere. I headed over to the Ball Diamond where Tim had found a Merc before and a few Rosie's and a few Wheats. I couldn't get anything so I walked across the street to where the River was to see if I couldn't pull a few more Deepies from here. Tim was working an area out in the Ball Diamond for a bit and then came my way. I asked if he had found anything and he told me he had found 2 Merc's and a few Wheats but nothing that great. We continued hunting until dark started setting in. I finally got a Deep 26 on Digital and dug down close to a Foot Deep. Out pops a Wheatie! I worked the area and started popping out a few more. I couldn't believe the Depths of some of the Wheats! I came across a few that wouldn't even register 22 on Digital and decided to dig them. They turned out to be Wheats and another Injun. I wanted to find one more Silver before we left and one of the last targets I dug was just that. Now, if you could have only heard this signal and seen the reading I got, I know you wouldn't have dug it. I was getting pretty much a Null but once in awhile I would get a choppy signal that sounded like it fluctuated a lot but couldn't ID it. I decided to dig it and from the length of the X-1 Probe.....surfaces a Silver Disc. I picked it up and Barber Dime #3 which turned out to be a 1905. I also dug 2 Keys and a Steel Pendant that has the face of Jesus on it which I thought was one of the neatest finds I have found yet. Tim's finds were 4 Merc's and some Wheats. My finds were 3 Barber Dimes, 1 Merc, a Rosie, 3 Injuns, a Buffalo Nickel, and a few Wheats. And there is still keepers DEEP here at this Park!!! Unbelievable!!!
My totals were 10 Silver for the day....2 shy of hitting 100 since the last Club Meeting. They were 1 Washington Quarter dated 1953-d, 3 Barber Dimes dated 1903,1905,1907-s, 4 Merc's dated 1936,1936-d,1939,1939-d and 2 Roosevelt Dimes dated 1950-d and 1959-d. I dug another stinkin' Clad Kennedy Half Dollar dated 1974-d. It should have been Silver but I guess I have to take what I can!
I dug 2 Nickels and they are 1 Buffalo Nickel dated 1915 and 1 Jefferson Nickel dated 1940-d. I got 3 Injuns and they are dated 1897,1906 and 1907. Wheats consisted of 27 of them this time out. They are dated as follows...10,14,15-d,17-s,18,19,19-d,19-s,(3)20,26,26-d,27-s,(3)29-d,30-d,34-d,36-d,41,42,44,(2)44-d,45 and 46-d. The Misc. Items were 2 Ford Keys and the Steel Pendant Item with Jesus's Face on it. Now to get out and find 2 more Silver before Friday Night! Hope everyone had a few good finds this past weekend and hope you didn't run into Mr. Jerk like we did. Thanks for looking and Good Luck and HH to you all.[attachment 130702 DirtySilver.jpg][attachment 130703 CleanedSilver.jpg][attachment 130706 DirtyCladHalf.jpg][attachment 130707 CleanedCladHalf.jpg][attachment 130704 DirtyNickelsampInjuns.jpg][attachment 130705 CleanedNickelsampInjuns.jpg][attachment 130708 DirtyWheats.jpg][attachment 130709 CleanedWheats.jpg][attachment 130710 DirtyMisc.A.jpg][attachment 130711 CleanedMisc..jpg]
