Finishing off January - first full month with the Deus

Finished off January last night with another trip to the fairgrounds before the weather turned crappy, yet again. Found 4 Wheats - the oldest of which is an extremely porous 1913 D. Used Andy's "High Trash" program which is spectacular on that polluted site!!! GBed manually and was on my way - had a LOT less iron falsing with a slight increase in detection depth - the 1913 D Wheat was about 7" down and sounded good! VDIed around 70-73 and I was hoping it was an early Wheat...Now that I'm not stuck with ID Norm turned on I can identify targets a little better with the 8kHz spread! Seems like I get upgrades and enhancements a little bit at a time with the Deus once I get used to a particular group of settings.

Started off with V2.0 in December and got used to those settings (and the better iron-rejection). Upgraded to V3.2 (with ID NORM ), better depth with increased separation, 5 tone audio was nice too. Didn't like the iron-falsing with V3.2 but I worked around it and feel better about it now. I will take a few iffy signals with increased depth AND separation...now that I've used one of Andy's programs for about 3 hours in a trashy site - I feel "really good" about good targets vs deep iron! Thanks again Andy for your insight! Improvements can only continue with the new coil and the eventual control box...come on winter! Go away! You've had a good run but many of us want to get outside and swing! :veryangry:

Also pictured is January's finds which include $15.08 in clad which breaks down to 233 modern coins. Highlighted finds are.....56 Wheats....1 Indian cent...7 silver dimes....2 silver quarters...1 Buffalo nickel...1 wartime nickel.......13 Civil War-era bullets (only three are pictured)...a 1908 election badge...and a few other things Im forgetting to mention

However the crap quotient is very high - I dug lot of trash to get all of this. Bottlecaps were abundant, and a few are still making their way into the pouch- usually the deeper and more corroded ones. The fairgrounds is littered with a lot of non-ferrous trash like chunks of brass, bronze, and aluminum as I've said earlier, but that makes me appreciate the good finds! I just got Andy's High-trash program loaded into my phones, and it seems to be superior than Prog#8 for that site. I also have a "High Performance Coin" program that will hit a dime (in clean ground) up to 12" - may try this one on my sidewalk strips!!!!

This year is going to be huge - I can't wait for warmer weather and to hit some less-polluted and less difficult sites with the Deus. 11" coil is coming - and eventually around March or so I'll have the control box which will enable me to sift through the garbage a little better at the fairgrounds. Never found a Barber until about 3 weeks ago, and I believe 2014 will be a year of MANY firsts with the Deus

But so far - I'm super-stoked about the Deus!!! If you're thinking about getting one...do it because all of your old sites will open up again with new discoveries. Good luck and happy hunting!

Very nice finds! I just got my Deus about 2 weeks ago. I've been reading Andy's book and taking notes. I find if I write it down I remember it better. I have not been outside with it yet. Yesterday, I picked up an iPhone armband that I can adjust to fit my forearm and a screen protector, which I cut to fit over the control box display and over the display on the headphones. I stuck the control box inside the neoprene armband for double protection.

This afternoon, I ran some of my coins across the coil to get an idea of what they sound like and read. I'm anxiously awaiting the Spring!

Nice finds, looks like the Deus is doing well.

Keep it up.
