First 2016 F 75 DST hunt.:fisher:

Although I have been hunting some this month, have been breaking in a Omega 8500 that my sweet wife gave me for Christmas.....and I will say it is a keeper.

It was 22 degrees here this morning, so if I wanted to hunt I needed to be in the woods. It is usually warmer there and no problems ever digging. Hence, grabbed the F 75 and headed out.

15 minutes or so into the hunt I hit the 44 Washington, so anything else was going to be gravy. Ended up recovering more old coins then modern for a change and always love digging old lead. The 1896 Indian is a bit tattered, but good readable date. 1 of the wheats was a 1918 and the 37 Buffalo has a good readable date as well. Hunting back to my car across a playground area I got one of the wheat cents and the 42 Mercury. I didn't take a shot of the Merc. fresh from the ground as I was almost to my car and to lazy. The Merc. was a pleasant surprise as the area has been hunted, and more then once. For woods hunting I use B P mode and run the 75 hot with no disc. HH jim tn

wow how cool to get a Omega 8500 for Christmas .also fine hunt today. Congratulations.

At 22 degrees I don't see how you kept from freezing to death, did your wife have a straight jacket waiting when you got home? Seriously, nice silver start for the year. I know what you mean when you find a nice silver quarter early in the hunt, it gets the juices flowing( maybe that's what kept you from freezing) and the rest of the hunt there is no pressure because you've already got a good day.

Ha, after 50+ years of marriage, she knows I am a bit daft. Hot Hands pads in the gloves and dress for the temps and all is good. The woods are actually several degrees warmer then the open spaces. At least I keep telling myself that. Yeah, getting silver or a good target of sorts early in the hunt helps one attitude and technique, it seems. Thanks, HH jim tn

Jim, Happy New Year! love those "woods" you frequent, they seem to never let you down, Good Hunts All, CO

Congrats on the hunt!!!! Nice selection of finds - silver - IH - buff - and some old lead to top it al off. Any one of those finds would have been a huge find down here in Florida. I'm lucky to go home with something pre-1960.

Another great post. Question: what were these "woods" years ago to have all the silver and other goodies? Thanks.

The woods have been a gathering spot since the early 1900's. Am told it also held a Union encampment when the union occupied Memphis during the Civil Was. Oldest coin I have recovered from it was a Seated dime, 1840o and several 1850-60s. Also know of a Reale that was recovered. Those woods and surrounding area's have afforded myself and others countless hours of hunting pleasure. HH jim tn

I am looking for a 6-8 inch coil for the F75. How is that coil you have in the picture? Depth?

Jim,
Really nice way to start off the new year.

I went out to the car last night to get something the wife left and I noticed how nice it was out there, about 14 degrees, snowing, and about a 15 mph wind. I came in and email one of my brothers with an invite for a all night hunt in the park, he answered back and offered me some batteries for my flashlight.

nalc472,
Here are some air test numbers on coils I have and had for my F75. That coil that Jim has on the stick is the 5x10DD elliptical.

Great way to start the new year jim!!!!! HH rick in mi

As Ron mentioned, it is the 5 x 10 DD and in the dirt depth wise, it doesn't appear to be to far off from the 11" DD. For woods hunting and semi trashy spots I use it a lot. The 11" certainly has its place, but for getting into tight spots and in fairly heavy trash the 5 x 10 is great. The little 5" is still the trash killer in blankets of trash, but not the depth of the bigger coils. Thanks all, HH jim tn
